    Salutations!

Having started to work on the ZZR250 that some toe rag tried to steal
from my daughters garage, I've discovered that the manuals are like
    rocking horse droppings.

Does anyone know how compatible the ZZR250 is with the EX/EL/GPX/GPZ 250?

In particular I need a new ignition switch (butchered with screwdriver
combined with massive stupidity) and before I start ringing around the
wreckers I want to make sure whatever I get will fit.

Also any recommendations for a Kwacker wreckers? I'm on the northern
beaches of sydney but anywhere around town is fine.

    TIA

    Nigel.

    <paging BTH !>

In the interim, I'll give you a half baked answer ! Engine wise
they're pretty near the same as a GPX, different frame, different
rims. I wouldn't be surprised if the electrics and switchgear were the
same - they share a lot of parts but no guarantee. GPZ is different on
the trim so I doubt it would be. EL - yeah maybe. I suspect your
    wreckers would know...

metropolitan motorcycle spares in Silverwater have a fair range of
    stuff, worth a try anyway.

They are pretty good about you showing up with a battered part in your
hand and saying "mind if I have a rummage to see if I can find
    something like this?"

So far as I can tell, the only difference between the ZZR and GPX
engine is in the colour of the casings and the location of the oil
filler hole (due to the different fairings).
Dunno, but the ZZR mufflers bolt right onto a GPX.
Possibly, but my memory is getting a bit hazy now. The GPZ motor has
different internals in terms of valve sizes, etc. It's supposedly a
    bit higher compression, too.

If you need a service manual, I put together one from scans of my
GPZ250+GPX250 supplement a few years ago. Google for
    "GPX250Manual.PDF" and you'll probably find it - about 30MB.

Nigel Allen is of the opinion:
EX == ZZR (marketing name vs internal model name); GPx ~= ZZR (as covered
elsewhere); EL/GPz I've got no direct experience with.
There's very little difference in ignition barrels between most kwakka
models. I took one from my badly mangled ZZR250
(http://www.hezmatt.org/bikewreck/) and fitted it to an '82 GPz750 (wot a
classic!) without a hassle. I'd say any 80s-90s road-going Kwakka will have
a compatible barrel/plug. What will be less compatible will be the fuel
tank and helmet locks; for that, my only known compatibility is between the
ZZR250 and ZZR600 fuel tank cap -- moved the above-mentioned 250's cap to my
600 after the keys for it got stolen and I decided it was a bad move to keep
the existing locks on it when some toerag had the keys (and knew where it
    lived).
Being 'gong side, I only know that the wrecker at Warrawong has all manner
    of interesting parts.

Say, is that the bike I bought the mufflers off a few years ago? They
would have gotten to me via Johnnie5.

I never used them, but they were still nice and shiny. ;-)

BT Humble is of the opinion:
I'm fairly certain those would have been the ones. Wouldn't have been from
me directly, though, they were stored in James' garage at the time.
Yeah, the bike only had 20,000km on it when it got squished. Near new.

  8. My mate chucked his down the road the other day and it is a writeoff. All the
bits you want are intact though. Email me for his number. One problem, he is
    in Perth.

Did I bring them down from James Mayfield in Parramatta?

    http://pdftown.com/Kawasaki-GPX250-Service-Manual.html

    There is a zzr250 supplement

    also skim through
    http://kawasaki248.tripod.com/

Kawasaki publish the parts fiches online as well, which is very handy.
