hey all, just went and had a look at a zzr-250 "98" model the only
problem i seen with it is that it has a cracked right hand ferring. i
have talked her down to $2700 it has a bit over 57000 on the clock,
motor runs well. i have priced another ferring at $774 from my local
kawasaki boys just wondering if anyone reccons this is a good buy or a
waste of dollars also what should i expect from a bike that has 57k on
the clock was serviced late last yr.

    cheers

Don't bother with replacing the fairings. Use some gaffer tape or
plastex to keep it together. Check comparable adverts for other bikes
to determine if the price is right. They're not a particularly high
revving engine so 57K on the clock shouldn't be a problem if it's been
serviced every 6000km and you keep that going.

whats the overall condition of the bike like ?

remember this is now an 8 year old bike

$774 , ffs i could get the crack repaired and the whole bike painted for
    that

if its been looked after there is plenty of life left in it

check the consumables, chains and sprockets, tyres, rego, brakes

take $2500 cash in hand and go from there

Go check out www.ninja250.org Theres some people on there that own the
ZZR and most of us in the states here want one. You may can find someone on
there that will have a fairing laying around. I know they sell and swap all
kinds of parts on there. Join up with the group. Anything and everything you
ever want to know about that motorcycle is on there. I have been a member
    for a while as I have a ex250.

    Good Luck,

14,00 rpm not high revving ? I know the baby blade has a higher limit,
but that's still spinning it pretty hard no ?

Nah, the wife's R6 redline starts at 15,500 or 15,750 or something

max power at 13,250 so 2 grand of overrev which is a kool thing on that type
    of bike

the '06 model is apparently out to 17-17,500

    according to the tacho only

    actually only revs to 16K

In the USA Yamaha have offered a buy back from people that bought it due to
    this feature ;)

hey J5 the overall condition of the bike is pretty good, the seat has a
small cut in it, rear brakes were replaced last yr, chain feld a bit
dry but looked ok, didn't have a look at the sprockets, rear tyre looks
like it could need to be replaced (probably would anyway as it's wet
season up here). A bit of surface rust on the pegs and exhaust. fuel
tank has no dings. rego is up in late may, hand grips could be replaced
the front brake leaver is slightly bent upwards so feels wierd to pull
on the front brakes, electrics are good. if i get it i will be booking
it in for a service and new tyres straight away.

p.s were are you in aus? NT? i don't reccon in Darwin i could get it
fixed and painted for that price!

    cheers

  12. Might have had a nasty right-side drop if the fairing's cracked and the
levers are bent. If it was left side might just be "Oop, forgot the
    stand", but not right side.

rebuilds cars and owns a bike so hopefully he can give me a better
    idea.

I guess in Darwin you dont have a huge amount of choice of bikes
to pick from so sounds reasonable
    I'm in sydney

u gotta find the right place to do things for the right place and Darwin
you will be paying as you prob dont have a lot of choice

my bike had a whole lot more damage than 1 crack and had it painted
in mulitple colours for not much over that price

Could be a 'parked it on a slope and it fell over the other way',
mind you. But, nah, probably just fell over. Look at the
steering stops and see if either of them are too badly buggered.

I wouldn't bother fixing cosmetics on a learners bike. Just ride
    the bloody thing.

Any drop will crack the fairing and bend the levers. The fact that it
is a crack and not half a panel missing will probably be a better
indication of the severity than simply basing a decision on left or
    right.

Hehe, busted for false advertising ! Next thing you know they'll start
looking into the 600 and 1000cc sportsbikes and checking their
advertised weight against their real weight :)

  20. Don't be distracted by the damage--it may just be a red ferring.
