Hi all, I'm considering taking a whole bunch of parts from an '07 ZZR-250 (written off) and bolting the good bits onto a '93 ZZR-250. As far as I can tell everything should "just work" (same shop manual for both etc) however I'm not 100% sure and I figured asking around can't hurt. Is anyone aware of any potential issues/incompatabilities? The wreck will cost me some $ to attain so I'm hoping to find out if this is doable prior to it becoming available. On a somewhat related note, does anyone have an idea what pressure level/force would be required to break the chin guard on a full-face Shoei helmet? I have one here I managed to total in the same accident as the ZZR above. There's a rather large full-length crack in the chin guard which goes all the way through the shell. Thanks all, --Brad
About the ZZR-250s, dunno. The Australian Standard covering crash helmets, doesn't actually have any definition of the strength or robustness of the chin piece of a full face helmet. The fact that it cracked, and you are still about to post shows that it did it's job. The force involved would have been surprisingly little, assuming you haven't got a broken neck. regards, CrazyCam
The 2007 model may have slightly different carburettors with de-icing pipework connecting them to the engine's water jacket (I saw a relatively late-model GPX250 with that fitted a few years ago). Lots. Did you break your nose in the process? I did. BTH
I'm hoping to take the entire engine and most of the other mechanicals across wholesale: the wreck only had 1700K on it. Hopefully any differences will be small ones which don't impact on the plan. The whole thing will be a learning experience (mechanically minded? Who me?) but hey I have the time right now if nothing else. Not my nose no, thankfully. I did manage fractures/punctures/tears to left occipital condyle (neck); base of skull; lower back; 12 or 14 ribs; 2 lungs; LeFort I and II (face); subdural haematoma; liver and other assorted abdominals and a bunch of other things. I don't think much of that came from the fall... rather from the semi- trailer running over my head and chest a second or so later. I'm pretty sure that's what snapped the helmet chin guard and am trying to figure out how much force was applied. Youch. take the opportunity to get a Nolan N102.. ? So if someone ever asks if you got hit by a truck, you can say yes ?
That is exactly the same as my helmet. I'm feeling much better about wearing it now that I know it can handle a truck running over it. Fraser
Not the entire truck, just the rear wheel bogie on a trailer attached to a dump truck. Similar to the trailer seen here: Had I gone under the front (vis "use ya mirrors" video) or had the truck been loaded, I'm pretty sure the helmet would have either collapsed or been rendered moot anyway. --Brad
