ZZR-250 bits available

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Matthew Palmer, Oct 6, 2003.

  1. After my recent scattering of bike over tarmac, there are a large number of
parts which are still in good nick. Although we're planning on getting
another ZZR-250, and so will probably go through some bits ourselves over
time, I figure there's no way we'll break everything ourselves, so I'm
offering to sell off bits to anyone else who might be in need of them.

Let me know what you want and how much you're willing to pay, and we'll
negotiate. No kicks in body parts accepted.

Bits I know are OK include:

    * front wheel
    * wiring harness and all associated bits (CDIs, ignition computer, etc)
    * All footpegs and control levers (both foot and hand) - yes, I'm amazed too
    * front wheel (single disc version, but without disc)

Bits I know are f**ked include:

    * Forks
    * Rear wheel
    * pipes (although the cans are still pristine, so if you need cans and know
a good welder, you might be in luck)
    * Pretty much every bit of plastic

  2. Intact Kneeslider is of the opinion:
It's been removed from the forks and spin-tested - no visible warping. Also
no visible flat spots or bumps. It was still fully inflated when I removed
it earlier today. The impact with the taxi was fairly high up - it appears
to have caught the forks above the wheel, so it wasn't subjected to major
    rootage.
The only visible damage so far is that the oil sightglass is smashed. I
don't want to say "yeah, it's all good" until I've got it out and on a
bench, and given it a good run. It was certainly very nice *before* the
    smash.

Hmm, thinking about that, who has put a bike engine into a go-kart or
similar? After all, it'll be fairly (relatively) powerful, and it has a
    nice speed-shift in-built gearbox...

  3. Intact Kneeslider is of the opinion:
Rear bumper of the taxi in front of me (which I *think* was a Falcon).
Also, the car that went into me from behind got under the back and would
have tended to push the front of the bike down - especially since I had my
hand on the front brake still, since I'd only just brought the bike to a
    halt when I got attacked.
Straight back. They're also not very *bent*, as such, but merely hard
snapped just below the bottom triple clamp. Also, the top bolt on the clock
rack was snapped, so I think that's copped a bit of a smack.
It's a hole. Nothing left of it.
Hmm, hadn't really thought of that. I think most of the bits should be
outside the engine, since the entire contents of the sump emptied onto the
floor of the storage yard while it was stored there.
Is that just to make sure that all the parts are still fairly sturdy, or to
flush any grot into the oil filter where it's less likely to make a nuisance
    of itself? Or both?
Whelp, I think I might have a project for the dim dark future. Probably not
going to get much power out of a ZZR250 engine, relative to those monsters,
but I still reckon it'd make a pretty fun little go-kart to fang around on.
I wonder how much a go-kart track would cost to get laid down?

It's because as you turn the crank with that T-bar,
and a lost bit of crap gets sucked up into the main gear,
you hear the crunch and feel the blockage, whereas
if you're running the motor you don't hear a thing
until bits of gearteeth start hitting the inside
    of the cases ...
.... or donate it to the National GPX250 Museum in Tarago.

Still here! I spent my long weekend doing pick-and-shovel work
levelling the site for my shed. I reckon I moved about 20 tonnes of
dirt and sand, so my pecs and biceps are pretty pumped! Shame about
    the abs though... ;-)

I'm interested in these, depending on where you are.

    Where are you, Matt?

Have a look at these GPX250 pics:

That shunt was enough to pretzel the forks and twist the frame head
(and, as we later dicovered, bend the front caliper) but the wheel and
    disk were unharmed.

Huh? What? I'm awake, I'm awake... oh, right... bits of gear teeth, yes...

....and then you'll have to split the cases.

I'm in the 'gong, the cans are currently sitting in Guildford, Sydney (home
    of the Guildford Bike Graveyard).
