It has toted the salad-shy one around for a big mileage though.

Bugger all. Whatever it may actually be *meant* to fail on, I'm sure you'll
just stand there and flutter your eyelashes/large ceremonial sword and the
nice man will say "No worries, love, er, I mean ma'am, it's passed first
    time!"... :)

Oh come on. If that was an MOT fail, there's not one of us would be able
    to ride a roadworthy machine.

Nah, but my efforts to still be funny are now so close to the bottom of the
barrel that I am in danger of becoming a Cane-a-like[1].

    Oh god.

As it is an import the headlight adjustment is out.

Everything else is fine. <nods to Mr Fantastic>

Oi Grainger, hasn't it had an MOT before? What did they say?

Now do I change it or stick adjustment strips on it or what?

    Lady Nina says...
The headlamp itself should be exactly the same as a UK spec one, as the
Japanese drive on the same side as us. It may just be the up or down
adjustment, or possibly side to side. The fact that it is an import
should make no difference at all unless the bike was built for a 'drive
on the right' market, which your's wasn't.
Adjust it properly, or ask them to. You don't need to do any more than
that with a bike designed to be ridden on the same side of the road as
    us.

I think you just have a fuckwit for a tester who was looking for
something to fail it on and picked the headlamp because it's obviously
    an import.

I had a cbr400rr that failed an MOT the same way.

All pre checks (1) proved the bike to be"roadworthy" (2) but there was no way of
checking headlight adjustment - as the garage does it in it's own particular way
    (3)

    1. With my co-garage sharee who is an ex MOT inspector and biker of 34 years.
    2. Whatever that means.
    3. Sometimes someone sits on the bike, sometimes it's the testee, sometimes it's
    no-one.

A bit of duck tape stuck over the light in the right place will get it
to pass. I bet that the tester said it was the beam pattern it didn't
pass on.. same as my FZR250. Look at the piccy of my FZR to see what I
did to get it to pass.
