ZX6R J1 carb icing

    One other thing.

    I currently have a ZX-6R J1 that is icing up even in temperatures as
    high as 5-6 degrees, which seems to be a bit odd (although in fairness
    the days were foggy, so there was a lot of moisture in the air). The
    dealer's checked/serviced the carbs and says everything's fine.

    Any thoughts? Are J1s especially prone to icing (my ex-G1 was fine)? Any
    magic cures? Failing that, where can I get hold of industrial
    quantities of Silkolene FST?

    That's exactly the sort of weather that brings about carb freezing.
    You prolly don't need 'industrial' quantities: a litre goes a long
    way. If you have trouble sourcing it, we found Wynn's Dry Fuel to be
    just as good, but also just as expensive.

    That's perfect for carb icing.
    No. My J1 carb iced like a bastard. The J1 has a carb heating system, which
    draws water from the rad to the carbs. It has a small in line filter so you
    check to make sure that isn't blocked. From recollection it's under the
    front right of the tank.

    This works. As Pip said, the 1l one will do, pop it under the seat and add a
    bit each time.

  5. I suspect Dry Fuel to be nothing more than methanol. Dirt cheap.

  6. My E1 9r did the same thing if that helps. I think its just Kawasaki`s
    water heating method around the carbs that simply don't work.

    Indeed...it just took me by surprise a bit since none of my other bikes
    have suffered until it's a bit colder. So I will check that
    filter...call me paranoid.
    When I say 'industrial' I'm only really talking about a 5 litre can of
    the stuff which should last me into March! :)

    My naked B12 k1 suffers really bad its fine untill I have run it for 1.5
    miles same place every trip when its cold then if i stop reving it it
    stalls. Any bright ideas? Will the sillkolene work?
