ZX12R's.... valuation and opinion

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by doetnietcomputeren, Nov 21, 2007.

  1. I seem to remember the ZX12R being rated as reasonable for what it is -
ie a reasonably fast tourey sporter. What're they like for twisties,
    long distance and for pillionage?

What would a 2003 model in immaculate condition and extremely low
    mileage be worth?

Cos I've just seen a black one being advertised locally y'see, and it's
black and shiny and black and shiny and less than 1500 miles on it and
    black.

Mate of mine had one and with SWMBO riding pillion it was hard to catch him
in the twisties (it was +40hp pulling him out of each corner)

Do UK prices correlate to your local market?

    http://tinyurl.com/yuh7a4 any help? (Nadaguide link)

I tend to go by the Motorcycle Consumer News (the US subscription-only
magazine) price guides. The March 2007 edition (there's been at least
    one update since then) says:

    Model Price
    Year (US $)
    ----- -----
    2005 8,770
    2004 7,470
    2003 7,155
    2002 6,340
    2001 6,080
    2000 5,185

Ha, i'm slightly late into this thread. Let me have a think and
    respond with something useful.

As many have listened to me moan that I never liked the bike that
much, I've actually kept it for much longer than I wanted and I feel
there's still a serious lack of comparable bikes to move to, as
    regards touring ability and comfort.

The OKish pillion seat and theoretical better comfort for touring is
one of the reasons I went for a 'Busa over a ZX12. Do they not suit
you? I seem to remember having this conversation at this year's BOSM
(or last year's EOSM, I forget).

    Cost, Weight.

For anything with the same comfort, they seem to be significantly
    lardier.

The 12R is a big comfy armchair compared to the comparable power
    litrebikes.

I'm in the market for something sportier next year though, as long as
I have a tourer in the garage to complement it with ..
