    Hi

Thinking of perhaps buying a Ducati, went into Zagame in Richmond
Melbourne. Stood around for 15 miinutes while salesmen were chatting
amongs themselves. Nobody showed any interest. Uh? Walked out

OK - Bad day. Telephoned today. They said they are all too busy to talk
to me. They will ring back. 3hrs later nothing. If this is what their
idea of customer service is like before sales, imagine what's it going
to be like after I bought the bike. Forget it.

Defaulted to the Suzuki - Better sales, and customer service

YOUR loss, enjoy your brutal drop in value.

So i suppose you never hear of MotoOne [aka Moto Italiano] in Oakleigh?

Since he'll have a spare $10,000 in his pocket that he didn't spend on a
badge now he can afford to buy a few cartons and drown his sorrows.

Seeing how, in the middle of worldwide boom in motorcycle sales, Ducati
have managed three straight years of falling sales, the answer is likely
    to be "no".

The Ducati dealership here has a similarly bad rep. No ppl skills.

A friend told me about his mate who wanted to buy a Ducati. He went to Gecko
with money in his pocket, determined to buy a particular type of Ducati
(don't ask me, I wouldn't know....) and asked the guy if he could take it
for a test ride. The guy said no. It wasn't the megabucks, one-of -a-kind
model in the showroom, by the way.

He said "But I'm keen to buy a such-and-such - but not going to buy anything
    I haven't test-ridden first though."

And the Gecko guy said "tell you what, why don't you go and test-ride one in
Sydney, then come back here and we can talk."

So he went to Sydney. Test rode the bike he wanted to ride. Guess who he
bought his bike from? A sales career just isn't for some people, is it?

Somewhere there's a village missing its idiot....

Doesn't surprise me. If all Ducati importers are as braindead as
    NFI...

Not totally wasted, we now know that Zagami isn't the place to buy Ducati's
    from.

Of course that doesn't do the company owner much good, but that isn't really
_our_ problem now is it :)

I wouldn't draw that conclusion. Some salespeople are too pushy, some
are the opposite... regardless, they all sell bikes. This bloke
obviously wasn't acting like he had a pocket full of cash to part
with... If he went to a Ducati dealer to buy a Ducati, and he left
without one and bought a Suzuki instead, his heart obviously wasn't in
it from the start... and when he didn't get the service he expected, why
didn't he go to another Ducati dealer? Moto One in Oakleigh isn't very
far from there, and probably no further in travel time to get to than
the nearest Suzuki dealer, which would probably be Peter Stevens city
    store.

you just didnt do it right....

you pick the most expensive bike and you sit on it, it funny how quickly you
    get service then

works in JB hiFi too... pick the $10K LCD tv and turn the volume up...
    instant service

I quite like the no service at Zagames... I dont have to tell anyone Im just
    looking :)

Like you said, his heart wasnt set on a Ducati [or brand x, and perhaps
wanted the Zuki all along?] as he was easily swapped to another brand.

Frankly it still is NOT good enough, i would expect even a drop-kick
customer to be treated with full respect and give fully 100% support
    and attention.

Mr.Zagame lives across the road from my aunty in Brighton, good a great
fleet of vehicles and not short of a quid...

Ducati Oz want to have a good hard look at themselves, cannot just
survive HD style selling jackets, caps, wallets and alike........

Well... that's the key isn't it. They might have sold him one if
they'd been all over him but who knows?

Way back when, I had thought I might want a Duke. There were 2 Ducati
shops in Adelaide, Dr Desmo and The Bike Factory.

I went to Dr D's who tended to make a bit more of a loud noise about
Ducatis, and... well... I could tell I wasn't wanted. Probably because I
was female, they were well known MCPs in that shop in those days I found
out afterwards. Either way they were slow, dismissive and generally
    unpleasant.

Did I go off and buy the GPz600 I was also considering?

Did I hell, I went to the other Ducati shop. Where Bill Martin always
was polite and helpful to everyone who walked in the door, even if
they were obviously a drop-kick to all who saw them. He was polite
and helpful to me too, no idea if he thought me a drop-kick because I
    wouldn't from his attitude.

I didn't end up buying a bike from either of them, I bought it
privately. But guess which one got my spares and repars business,
got my referrals, sold the bike for me when I got the Devil?

Now, had I not really been interested in Ducati I might have stopped at
the one shop. But instead I tried another and ended up with a long term
relationship (even thought Bill sold the place he sold it to someone
good and the good spannerman stayed) with a good shop and found a good
    bunch of people through it.

So I think your mate didn't really want a Duke if he let one bunch of
nongs turn him off. I also think he might have found the a bit of
perseverance might have got him a social circle and good friends as
well as a bike - did for me!

Funny you should mention those guys, my wife was from Adelaide and we
went to Dr.Desmo [its the one in Blair Athol right? Across the road
they sold fireworks, but thats another story] and the sales guy [looked
more like a Harley boy] was both pleasent and professional.

We only went to visit them because i wanted to see the bike scene in
S/A [which has the best rider roads just minutes from the CBD] and he
knew full well that i was only *looking* but still had a chat about
this and that and even gave me a brochure and sticker..Go figure

Maybe staff have good days and bad days?I dont know

The main thing is treat a customer like you want to be treated, no sale
today can be a sale tommorow or in the future.A bike is a big
investment, its not something somebody is going to buy on the spur of
the moment [Qantas PR guy excl.]

P/S I think they lost the Ducati account anyway, to a stand alone
    Ducati dealership in Adelaide?

The best royal treatment i get is at a Lexus dealership.Yeap, u get
    treated like a king

[And so u jolly well should, WE are what keeps them in business]

  19. Probably just a disgruntled customer trying to get his own back.

"Hey mate! I've got a shitload of cash in my pocket. How much is this
    one!" worked for me.

I have no doubt they have changed in the intervening years, but they
were definitely unpleasant when I knew them.
So did The Bike Factory. The importers wanted more t-shirt space and
to be more welcoming to the yuppies.

What was hilarious was that for some time the new dealership had no
Ducati trained mechanics. All their work went to The Bike Factory.

Except for warranty work, which they couldn't send out because they
couldn't sort the payment. So all their customers got warranty work
done by bods who hadn't worked on Ducatis before and hadn't done the
    factory training.

I believe they have now fixed that.
