Z650 spare engine

  1. Started pulling it down this afternoon - for one thing, I want the
    shims.

The cams are absolutely *perfect*. They look new. I was going to flog
'em, but now I might keep 'em just in case. What I want to know is that
with the Z650, does one need to replace head and cams as a unit? I
suspect not, but it's worth asking.

  3. Ah, ta for that. I had a feeling that here was something that had to be
    kept together.

Head & caps, not cam & caps or head & cams. Thanks again.

As the caps ( and head )run without a shell insert[1], it may be worthwhile
getting some plastigauge or hiring/borrowing a bore micrometer to check for
ovality. If it is out, it isn't hugely expensive to get them built back up
    and line bored.

[1] It has been over a decade since I furtled with one, so memory tricks may
deceiving me here. I can't remember seeing a shell.

  5. No shells. And the cams are superb in every respect, so yeah, the head
    and caps belong together.
