I have a 1980 Kawasaki Z200. It is in great nick and runs sweet.

I am trying to find out whether I should be putting a lead replacement
additive in the fuel. The manual only speeks of using a fairly high octain
    fuel.

    thanks for any help

The Z200 engine is as tough as old boots and should be fine on
unleaded. It's one of those "agricultural" single-cylinder OHC
units the Japs produce in epic numbers to be abused in the third
world. It'll still run on straw and piss if needs be. In the 60's
Honda got it right first time with the CB150 which became the
everlasting CB125. For the Z200 & Z250 Kawasaki lifted the design
and perfected it. If you're worried chuck the occasional capful
of additive into the tank but it won't make a scrap of
    difference.

May I direct sir towards the fine FAQ for this newsgroup, where this

Funny that, I remember reading the my Z200 Owners handbook and
    thinking "wtf is unleaded fuel?"
My first bike and the one I passed my test on too. Fucked if I can
remember the reg no tho, only had it for 4 months.

    Ah memories...............

I'm pretty good at remembering reg numbers. My first bike was MGW 572W
and car FGP 54F. I can do most of the other HOS I've had too.

This, for those that don't know, is called living in the fast lane at the
    *fucking* edge.

I thought I could.. then realised I've owned, or kept, or used about 22
vehicles in 10 years (some were company ones), on occasion for just a
    few weeks at a time.

This is called sometimes missing the fucking edge.

Thanks to you all for your knowledge. This is the first bike my son and I
have bought to work on. Having said that there is so little to work on. It's
    a great little bike.

    cheers

Back in March, I did 1361 full-throttle miles in four days on Snowy's old
Z200, purely on unleaded. The chain stretched a bit, and the headlamp bulb
went West, but that's about it.

Had one in the late 80s and it ran well on unleaded, the front brakes is a
cam operated jobby and it decided to lock on when I wore out the front pads
which managed to stop the bike quicker then when the pads were new LOL.
