  8. 2.5 PI. Lucarse mechanical injection. <spit!> Funnily enough, there's a
movement among PI mongs to retrofit Bosch K-Jetronic stuff (taken from
    2.8 Ganardas).

No you ain't. Well yes you are actually, as we all know - but not on
this particular one you aint - sweller is. The Triumph 2000 was never
fitted with injection - that was the province of the 2.5PI as he
should well know, them being banger-of-choice for a generation.

  10. I think the 2.2 version of the 2000 was fitted with injection as well.

I had a Vitesse soft top and it bust a valve spring. When I went to get
a replacement the micro fische told me the engine was a 2.2 normally
fitted with FI but used in the last of the 2 litre Vitesses. As the
valve hadn't dropped, it was just making a noise, I managed to remove
the old one and put a new one in without removing the head. :)

  11. Set up it would work perfectly for about 150 miles or one day which ever
    came sooner.
Are the engine profile maps similar or do they mod them?

  12. ~1982 I was on an evening class with a guy from the RAE at
Farnborough. He reckoned that taking it to bits and building properly
using out of aircraft grade material it would work ok. Perhaps another
case of the prince of darkness being let down by the cost cutting of
the end users in specifying poor material?

I think you're thinking of Lotus or Rover which were (afaik) the
common contemporary engines of 2200cc. Triumph put 1600cc straight
sixes in very early Vitesses (which were a lovely motor), the 2000cc
in the Triumph 2000(sic), the GT6 and later Vitesses - and the mighty
2500cc into the 2.5PI and various TRs.

I am not aware of a 2200cc variant, nor can I find any evidence of
    one.

    In
IIRC it was the TR5 was the first fuel injection Triumph., and you're right
about the 2000 never being injected.

  15. As I said I only got it from the micro fiche when quoting the engine and
chassis numbers for bits. The last 500(?) Vitesses 1971 (I think)
vintage of which I had one were made out of bits and pieces.
Mine had a 2.2litre[1] straight 6 with carbs. The GT6 chassis,
    suspension and gearbox with OD.

It kept popping diffs which I would replace under guarantee (every year)
especially after I'd been towing my speed boat for any distance quickly.
It did go like sh*t off of a shovel!

[1]The valve springs on the 2000 were doubles, on the spec for my
engine they were singles which were fitted to the 2.2(?) and the 2.5. I
really didn't think it was a 2.5 engine, the log book had it as a 2198
cc engine. The carbs were larger throat than the normal 2000 and had
adjustable bits on them where as the standard 2000 had the adjustables
    blanked off.

    Not surprised, however ...

The later bodied 2.5 was marketed/known as [1] the MkII Triumph 2000. It
coming in both 2000 and 2500 six cylinder flavours. Injected versions
being, as you say, designated the PI.

The MKI (one) PI was introduced in 1968, the MKII (two) in 1969.

Not official I accept but does concur with my memory ...

  17. I haven't delved into it enough - it was just a passing mention
somewhere or two. Fwir, it's a relatively easy conversion.

  18. Point of order...

The 2.5PI was always known as a seperate model. Certainly used the basic
2000 bodyshell and undergarments, but was sold as a distinctly different
car in all the bumph and carnuts' heads of the day.

  19. <Bell faintly rings in memory>
They were all part of the British Leyland stable at that point. I
wouldn't be at all surprised if BL shoved the utterly horrible 2.2 Rover
    lump in there.

In fact, I'd wager my cat's nuts on it.

Previously on usenet, Grimly Curmudgeon said...
    I quite liked the P6 2200TC I used for a couple of months[1]. I only
stopped using it when someone told me I really needed to run it on
unobtainable 5 Star fuel, and I'd been running it on 3 star IIRC. I left
it back on the cheapie row at work and took a Renault engined Lotus
Europa for the next couple of months instead.

[1] Working for my uncle at a used car site in Wiltshire, I had use of
any car that was taxed for as long as it remained unsold.
