  2. I had an image of Up Pompeii in my head when I read it.

Which did cause a small smile..

    Shush.

    Anyway, look at this:
    Searched Groups for group:uk.rec.motorcycles author:bear.
    Results 1 - 10 of about 64,800.

.... and compare and contrast with:
    Searched Groups for -**** -**** -"f*ck" -"c*nt" group:uk.rec.motorcycles
    author:bear.
    Results 1 - 10 of about 70,700.

Heh. How do they calculate that 'about' thing, anyway?

I think the problem is that * is a complete wildcard i.e. "f*ck"
matches "first of all, you should look at the clock", for example.
Generally, these searches don't work very well for inclusion searches,
and searching for a -"*" value probably confuses the hell out of
    things.

For your future googling enjoyment, to do *single character" wildcard
    searches, use ? rather than * i.e. "f?ck".

They still don't seem to work very well for exclusion searches, mind,
    but:

Searched Groups for **** OR **** OR "f?ck" OR "c?nt"
    group:uk.rec.motorcycles author:bear. Results 1 - 10 of about
    9,810. Search took 2.04 seconds.

would seem more like it, indicating over 15% of Bear's posts to this
    newsgroup contained "swear words".

  9. The short answer is - I can't.

The long answer is that I had a succession of sports bikes
before, ending up with a CBR600, and I fancied something
completely different [1], and you can't get much more
    different than a cruiser.

[1] After finally coming to terms with the fact that
I will never be a riding god, or even a minor deity.

Silly boy. The mere fact you ride a bike makes you a minor deity.

The progression to full Godhead though requires differing approaches.
The achieve the ultimate whilst riding a cruiser has nothing to do with
going fast, although if you can ground the footpegs whilst still sitting
bolt upright on both left and right handed bends you are getting there.

All that then remains is learning to pose at slower speeds.

Granted; being able to control your bike while doing a leisurely figure
of eight or five in the car park is beyond most power ranger types but
it represents the best opportunity you will ever get to show the world
just how damned fucking fine you look astride you heavenly steed from
    all sides.

    Godliness will inevitably follow.

  13. Thanks for the encouragement. I can grind both pegs,
but I need to work on the slow smooth riding.
    Especially past shop windows.

Surely if he was out shopping with women the objective was to _avoid_
    buying things.
