YTC and the MZ

  1. I gave him a brand new "universal"[1] rack a couple of years ago, as it
was surplus to requirements, and he kindly brought it back tonight as he
hadn't found a use for it and I reckoned it would fit the MZ.

And, indeed, it did. Sort of. It's not quite level: it's pointing down
at the back. I affixed my ShiteOldTopbox[2] to it, and it looks perfect.
Utterly crap. Really, very very naff.

So Bruce buggered off to ride the MZ round the block, and being Bruce,
left the choke[3] on so it was barely running when he got back.

We cleaned the plug, but still, the moment you gave it any throttle, it
    died.

In the end I reckoned it had just filled the crankcases with neat fuel,
and kept it running until it cleared. Which it did.

    [1] Fits all bikes badly
[2] Owned since 1980. So covered with stickers you can't see what colour
it is[4]. Stickers include Bol D'Or stickers from 1982 onwards.
[3] More of an enrichment jet that squirts neat fuel in.
    [4] Black, of course.

    I would just like to add some detail neglegted by TOG :=}
Bruce trundled off on the MZ as handed to him by TOG, with the fuel turned off.
Managed to restart it but was then unsure of the choke postion..

Anyway, apart from that a good ride.

You where lucky , last time I did that I ended up with a hydraulic
ock[1] - took three oil and filter changes till it all cleared , but I have
    some really shiny internals now.

The only low point was it evidently degunged an oil seal on a valve, and I
have lost compression in one cylinder, thanks to said valve seal now leaking
like a leaky thing on a leaky thing convention. Just waiting for delivery of
a set of valve seals for the GS from a nice man in New Zealand. Including
postage cheaper than buying 'em locally. Isn't Ebay wunnerfull .

[1] Forgetfully leaving a fuel tap on prime while you bugger off for some
lunch and don't come back to it till the next day is NOT recommended ;) But
gave the garage floor a good degrease as well.

    You should have said.

I have a number of MZ racks and top boxes (genuine and pattern in various
states of decay from new to was once chromed, honest).

Also engine bars for a TS125/150 - unfortunately not the half a drain
pipe rain protector type, but nevertheless makes a small bus look narrow.

I also have a sidecar, I feel an ES Trophy related plan coming on...

Dammit. Oh well, the rack and box it wears are fine and look nicely
    shite.

I was wondering about chasing after a G-reg ETZ250. repainted olive
green, but allegedly all hunky-dory, for ukp175. You know more about
MZs than I - it sounds like a good deal to me, if it's all in good
    order.

    £175 sounds v. good for a T&T, German, ETZ.

De-scabbyfing MZ's isn't that difficult or expensive. Just involves
finding a smart one that lunched its engine and buying it for peanuts.

    I think it was on 11 Sep 2003 05:50:39 -0700 that
    (WorkTOG) announced to the world:
Scary thing is that they still make 'em new in Turkey.
