I've just blown up my 'hobbyhist' compressor (the best one that
Screwfix had available) It shed the fan inside the cover, with
exploding plastic going right through the motor.

I only had the thing a day too :-(

  13. How do they differ from dooferwotsits?

I have a gud collection of non-matching spanners and sockits, nearly all
of them hfrshy sizes, picked up beside roads over the years. Also, a
rather nice leather belt with a brass claw qd-qf buckle sortathing,
several turnscrews and a bocks of assaulted gnuts and washers, R-pins,
    ect.

I'm sure there's lots more, but I'm having an extended senior moment innit.

Matte grey would be bester still.
Or was it Matt grey as opposed to Major grey?

  15. Afaik, Screwfix are good on returns, so you should be ok. Northern Tool
are excellent in this regard - the problem on mine was caused by SIP's
lack of packing technique. Cardbox box, compressor - that was it; no
polystyrene or cardboard packing pieces, no bits of bubble wrap,
nothing. Anyway, it works fine and the only bit of damage is the plastic
cowl, which NT are sending asap.

Hammerite is the stuff, tis a sort of flaked semi gloss which avoids
    the problem

It also wears off all over things - in Kate's case expensive delicate fabrics.

Perhaps easiest would be to laminate it with Formica. Or even easier,
cheaper and more renewably, just paper it with 1000 gauge lining paper.
You could sketch on that, too - and make notes and adjustments and
diagrams and things. And then strip it all off once a year and replace
it for peanuts. But not with peanuts, or the elephants will press even
the seams you didn't want pressed.
