Ordered? *Ordered*?? Don't the skips round your way have
    bits of wood in 'em?

No, but go for it anyway.
    * Lots of empty jars, of different sizes; some with lids,
some without. You can use these for storing all those bits
and bobs left over after you've "put everything back together
    in reverse order".

    * Bottle of turps, brushes for the cleaning of. Modus
operandus: put turps into jar; put brush into turps; get
called away to do something else; after about a month wonder
what the smell is and what exactly is growing in that jar?

    * Chair. Armchair, deckchair, recliner... anything will do,
    as long as it's comfy.

    * Table, for to clutter up with all sorts of stuff of unknown
    provenance.

  4. In uk.rec.motorcycles, mups amazed us all with this pearl of wisdom:
I thought that just after posting. It will probably start its own niche,
SOCB (shite old cult bike) as TBH, mine doesn't leak , it's liquid
cooled, it has radial tyres etc. The only one constant with true SOBdom
is the crap brakes. Each to his own but I don't envisage myself looking
longingly at a SOCB in quite the same way as a true SOB.

If I ever owned a SOB, I'd want it to be something like an old GS850.

Bugger me, I was really on about tools. If we start on about
accumulated assorted junk we'll be on here for ever and a day.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

I think the definition of SOB needs updating. Obviously it's age,
design and a high number of previous owners and the fact that its next
place of permanent residence will be the scrapyard must be taken into
account but it definitely needs bringing into the 21st century.

It is very much a rat bike that has not had any rat work done on it,
just owned, ridded, fixed only when needed and of course loved.
By my definition I own nothing else.

I've got 2 lasts. (Hang on, they can't both be last, shirley)

Never mind, I hang a placcy bag on one of them
    to dump un-tqtable rubbish in

Heh, no seriously I want a 2 stroke Yamaha, I wonder how many TDR250's
    are alive nowadays...
I owned a Powervalve 15 years ago and I fancy the 2 stroke buzz.
And they are not exactly difficult to fix if they go bang.

    We'd taken that as read.

But WRT the dial guage, I have a magnetic stand, but the magnet's a bit
shagged, so it's fine for horizontal work on a surface plate.

You can have/swap that if you like, do you want me to find out the
    shaft diameter [1] ?

Maybe you should buy something that's a shite old heap to start with &
see if it transforms overnight - you could make a fortune.

Talking of which, any news from that job interview?

Mine haven't all been bad. I would quite happily let JP see my GPz305,
mind you I bought it new and commuted it so it needed seeing to regular
anyway which is not hard if you actually do it.
