Moving on from this, what's the most useless item you've picked up
thinking 'oh that'll come in useful one day' and never has...

My torque angular gauge is still sitting in a packet about 8 years
later ferinstance. Or the Socket bits that SP identified for me as a
    Ribe socket.

    Cheers

    Paul.

A fucking huge and evil looking cast alloy Yamaha RD and TZ clutch
holding tool. Bought at the Ally Pally show about 3 years ago, after
which I very soon sold all my RDs and never had the need to use it.

I won't sell it though, just in case.

This is in the FAQs, but (without looking it up) generally a
ShiteOldBike or SOB has to have several of the following features: air
cooling, oil leaks, narrow cross-ply tyres, points ignition (when new),
    iffy brakes.....

Spoked wheels and six-volt electrics score extra points, as does
acetylene lighting. So Z900s are SOBs but GPZ900s aren't. They're
close, though. Gold Wings, LCs and CX500s are honourable exceptions to
    the "air cooling" requirement.

The point about SOBs is that they're generally bought by people who
could have a decent modern bike *if they wanted, but they don't*. Of
course, many people have both. Ahem.

SOB is a term of affection and there are a fair few ukrm-ers who ride
their SOBs impressively hard and fast (if "fast" is taken as meaning
"percentage of their original top speed"). The SOB Run to the Bol in
    2001 was a case in point - 400 Four, Z750 Turbo, GS550, XS250,
    XJ550.....

I suppose SOBs in the making are early Kawasaki liquid-cooled fours,
possibly the early CBR600s, definitely the Suzuki Gammas, Yamaha
    FJ1200.....

TOG@toil emerged from their own little
    world to say
    http://www.ukrm.net/faq/Motorcycles/Shite_Old_Bikes_(tm).html needs a
re-write then. If you take the 20 year criterion as the constant then
many of the other criteria need revising.

We need a new typology :)

A Moto Guzzi points adjusting tool. basically, a 14mm (I think) spanner
on the end of a 15-inch rod, that you poke down between the cylinders
to hold some locknut while you fiddle....

....Oh, I dunno. Hold something, undo something....

I bought it for my second Spada, not realising it had electronic
    ignition fitted.

It's good for stirring paint with, though. I'll never throw it away
because it's bound to come in handy one day.

I bought an air impact wrench kit with all the sockets etc (it doesn't
    have a 12mm tho!)
What I'm gonna do with this is anyones guess, it feels nice in the hand
though..a lot heartier than an electric tool.
I'll find something to undo and tighten up, I have no doubt.

I'm rather taken with the idea of an "indecent 3hp compressor", the
pissibolities are endless and some of them probably fatal.

I spent ages getting one sorted once when I worked at a dealers, I got a
kind of affection for it, with it being such a bad motorcycle. I still
remember the rear exhaust header, and this was over 15 years ago.

A magnetic dial gauge stand, after Andy B gave me a dial gauge.
Unfortunately, the gauge bloody years old, and doesn't fit the stand.

I dunno, I think the CBR1000 is heading quite nicely to SOBland. It'll
never make classic status like an early blade or GSXR750 so SOB it is.
