What do you use to stop your bike being nicked?
What is your security set up?

    Just looking for inspiration :)

Three rabid Rottweilers, two ex-SAS guards, a moat with crocodiles,
    searchlights, machine-gun towers, ground-anchors, a small thermo-nuclear
    device with a PIR trigger, skunks, 36Kv, a pissed-off Geordie who's been
denied his weekly BA allowance, a smelly tramp, a local mafia insurance
    policy.

Lastly, and most effectively, a collection of motorcycles that could
only be loved by their mothers.

    What's your suggestion?

Mark Goodwin emerged from their own little world to say
A lot of people put their bike in the garage and forget they have one. I
suppose this works on 2 levels: a thief will never follow you home to case
your place and you wouldn't miss it if an opportunist made off with it
    anyway.

All joking aside, I really liked Mark. I shouldn't take the piss, but I
think he'd see the funny side were he alive today, but there wouldn't be
a funny side cos there'd be no joke.

Mine's in a locked garage and it's fitted with an alarm and two
immobilisers. It also has another two bikes parked in front of it,
both of which are fitted with alarms and immobilisers.

If we're away on holiday we also park a van right up against the
garage doors and lock a pair of steel gates half way up our drive then
park another car on the drive in such a way that you couldn't get a
    bike past it.

I don't think it'll be nicked from home but once it's away from there
    it's open season.

Oh, and not owning a bike that anybody would really want to steal, of
    course.

I use my Ratbike as a ground anchor and then the usual setup of locks
and chains. I don't use locks and chains to stop it getting nicked btw,
they're on there because... well, I don't know. Thing is, if someone's
    gonna nick it, they will.

To be perfectly honest, I don't get much peace of mind at all by locking
and chaining it. The best thing would be not to give a shit if it gets
nicked and then I'd suggest something along the lines of what Auvache
    said.

The only surefire way would be to pay a trained, armed guard with a
taste for blood to watch the bike 24 hours a day and have a vicious,
rabid dog for backup. Some sort of early warning system would be good,
too whereby you could get a load of your mates together and go round mob
    handed.

When in the garage, ground anchors, FOAD chains, alarms on the bikes,
garage wired up to house alarm, separate house alarm just for the
garage, baby alarm, & infra-red motion sensing wireless CCTV cameras
with motion activated VCR recording. Plus a last line of defence that I
    couldn't possibly mention in public.

An alarm and a garage, most of the time. I generally try not leave it
in dodgy areas. If I'm going somewhere unknown then I'll take the
    chain and lock.

I'm hoping I'll be able to be as flippant if it does get nicked, but
there's only so much you can do. If they want it bad enough they'll
    have it.

If you're going to get something new have a search for that thread
about uncroppable chains that popped up recently.

If the chain crop fails, do we have to send famine relief or organise

I park mine next to a clean sporty bike which isn't chained up, having
already tested for an alarm by nudging it with the panniers as I stop.

Just donate 2 links a month. Give a man in a dodgy area a bike and
he'll have transport for a day. Give him the tools to secure that bike
and he'll be able to keep it for a lot longer.
