What an excellent programme this evening's "Secret History" was and how
truly sad to see, right at the end, how many of the people they interviewed
have died since it was made.

    Anybody else watch it?

Yeah, but a couple of them looked amazingly well for blokes past their
    hundreth birthday.
Give what a bloody waste of time the whole thing was it's a bit of a pisser,
    isn't it?

Do you know where his grave is? Have you been out to see it?

That was hardly the meat of the programme, though. The government's
complicity in the affair and some of the motivation behind the lads join up
were the bits that fascinated me.

I'll admit that the first series was better in terms of finding bits of 20th
century history that really were surprising, but I think the series has
managed to stick to the same high (for TV) standards of journalism
    throughout.

Certainly its done well when you compare it to something like "Horizon",
which is bloody awful these days.

  7. Unlike Procopius. Nobbling ones employer when said employer is an
Emperor is a good reason for keeping your history secret..
