Yes it does - particularly letters like U, L and C.

    Get in line.

Mine failed due to the plate being a legal size, but the plate is
vertical, rather than horizontal, meaning the letters were slightly
    too small.

    The cunts.

That's fucking bollocks, It just needs to be BS marked, have the
postcode of the maker, and be of legal size (plate and letters).

    Border my arse.

Not if the vehicle was first registered before Sept 1st 2001.

How many times do I have to repeat this?

Though I seem to recall that the size of a bs plate is greater than the
size that it would need to be to meet the numberplate "rules".

On my harley, I could fit a plate that met all the legal sizings, but
    not a bs one

The one I took was registered in 1983.

Still failed on digit size. New rules this year, apparently ..

My Sprint ST passed its MOT on Saturday. Which was nice.

    1983 doesn't need a BS mark or maker's name/postcode but digits must
conform to the regs at the time of registration.

I am gonna take the IOM plate on the bike for a re-test, any bother i'll
have a new one just down the road if i need one.

Thinking about what he said, i might have got a bit mixed up, but in
fairness, my plate is rather obv illegal, there is no yellow on the
edges of the letters. Not that it was fit by me, but it is a pisstake,
which is why it will be going back on right after the test...

  13. Aaahh, kaching. So the yellow border is on the letters, not around the
edge of the plate? That has more reason to it.

Wrong. I assume Nige is referring to those edges of the letters which
are also on the edges of the plate.

The background colour of the plate is yellow, so there would be no
point in specifying yellow edges to the letters generally. There IS a
point in specifying a yellow border (or margin, if that makes it
clearer), to ensure that the letters don't go right up to the edge of
the plate thereby making it harder to read.

I don't see why you are finding this concept so difficult.

  15. Got it now. That explained it. A picture of a plate would have made it
clearer. I forgot you had yellow plates. Ours are all sorts of colours
and for some reason I had in mind that your plates were black.

    Ah.

Can you choose your colour? I see all sorts of possibilities here ...

  17. Yeah, you can customise them to you heart's content if you want to.
Not cheap though. But each state has a different scheme and they keep
changing it over time so there is a massive amount of different
designs and colours depending on which state and how old the plate is.

Sometimes it's quite pleasant not to have to worry about such things.

No bike MOTs here and the cars can be up to two years.

I found out today, the plae has been 'visited' recently, so he's towing the
    line about plates.
