You have to wonder

Why someone who's supposedly rebuilt a 70's crosser (Yam DT 125 or summat)
can't figure out that slackening the clutch cable won't make it easier to
get into and out of gear?

This bloke was parading around the yard yesterday on this bike, struggling
like a **** to change gear and he never managed to get it into neutral until
after he'd stalled the motor. I asked him what was the problem and after him
telling me he'd only just replaced the clutch, I checked his cable (first
and easiest thing to check, right?)

More free play than "pulling" movement (well almost). I asked him why there
was as much free play as there was and he said he thought it didn't have
    enough.

I took out all but 1/16" of slack, fired the bike up, slotted into first and
rode up the yard. Came back and clicked it straight into neutral like one
    does.

I then explained why *some* free play is a good thing, but why too much is
    bad.

If he's rebuilt this bike himself, I'll show my arse.

Well you're apparently becoming a nutter and a loud nutter at that. Do I
want to get dragged along with a nutter? I'll have to give that some
    thought.

    <thinks>

Maybe next weekend? I'll see what I've got on and give yer a bell.

  12. It does actually - only because the rest of the team are eating the
Scharf (Hot & Spicy) Mini Cabanossi that I bought back for them !

Actually scrub that "eating" and replace with "eaten" ..... greedy
    bastards !

You know I still can't get that clutch quite right. It drags a bit now,
when I got it from you it was slipping a tad.
