  1. That wasn't my experience, but YMMV.

Why? Apart from the UKRM runs I've not really enjoyed any trips into
Frogland and I can't see much in Paris that appeals.
Yeah, it's on our list[1], my only trip to Italy probably doesn't count
anyway - the plane had to land en-route from Crete to Manchester cos
some poor bod had a heart attack on the plane, we landed at Napoli but
    weren't allowed to disembark.

[1] Probably get there via a med cruise, we really enjoyed the baltic
    one we did.

  7. I'm not really sure wtf you;'re going on about, but I hardly think I
would be in any place to comment on anyone 'invading' California should
I be there any time in the future.

pick one that gives you a couple of days to explore Naples, Sorrento & the
Amalfi Coast. Perhaps use Naples as a stopover either end of the trip. Hire
a car if you are feeling brave, to explore Amalfi.

It was just slightly oblique. I was told it had a perfect climate and was a
great place to live, if you didn't mind living in Mexico. Not having been to
Mexico that means nothing to me. Obviously the RCC thing makes me deeply
suspicious but as I can live on Margarita and their cuisine it may not
    matter.

This is, many will be surprised to hear, utter bollocks.

But, of course, you're obviously trolling, given that you're talking
about something of which you have no experience.

I think you have failed to read. I haven't said anything. Simply recounted
some comments from a colleague (who was born there) in a questioning way and
stated my food and cocktail preferences.

Though I do recall the Mayor getting lashed for a Sanctuary policy for
    aliens.

Mate, I don't understand what's going on with you these days. I like
you, as you know. I do not like what you're saying all the time right
now. It doesn't jibe with the guy I know.

It may well be that you're playing, I don't know. I do wish you'd stop
    it.

Ah. So you *are* playing. Like I said, I wish you'd stop it.

  15. Well given it used to be Mexico, that's hardly a surprise.
You're making this conversation very difficult. RCC? Surely you don't
    mean the church? FFS.

Not to mention that typically speaking Mexican hospitality is
absolutely grand. "Mi casa su casa", "this is my cousin", and "any
friend of x is a friend of ours" really does apply, not to mention
"here have a beer, you are staying for food, *aren't* you" - and this
last one is not a question.

Don't feign surprise that I consider the catholic church to be a deeply
unpleasant construct. But yes that's rather how I'd expect the Mexicans to
be. Rather like the Filipinas. Poorer and agrarian societies probably often
    are.

My partners here lived in Mexico city for a while. A concept that fills me
with horror. But despite the turmoil the people somehow won them over and
they weren't in a hurry to leave.

Talking of Mexican food I went to Viva Mexico in Edinburgh recently. Still
there and going strong after <counts> 21+ years. Cracking nosh.

  18. I'm not surprised about that, I'm surprised you brought it up in
relation to living in California. RCC and in fact, religion, generally
appears to a world wide phenomonen. I'm sure there's at least a couple
of churches in your local area. It's not like anyone suggest that you
    should subscribe.
You'd be living a 5* lifestyle, so you'd never actually know what the
country is like outside of your compound. I suspect if you did leave
    the compound you'd hate it.

    <thinks>

In fact, I'd suspect you'd hate it even if you never actually went to
    the country.
Unsurprisingly, the 'turmoil' doesn't involve every person or place in
the country. Although we were talking about California, not Mexico.
I wonder if there's a 'Scottish' restaurant somewhere in the middle of
    Mexico City.

significantly worse from where I sit.
