  3. I went to Morton's in White Plains, NY a couple of weeks ago, and yes
    it was very good.

In Lubbock, TX a month ago, I was advised to go to Cagle's Steaks, and
that I'd never have a better steak - which was bollocks.

The best steak I've ever had was at the Gaucho Grill in the Palms
    Beach Resort, Kuwait.

You still there then? When you heading over this way, or have things
    moved on again?

  6. I'm still here. No plans to move. I took a job with another division
of my firm (K's preference, over Afghanistan). I'm away all week
every week, but at least I'm home weekends.

Not in May, I hope? Or will you leave the key under a plant pot near the
    door? :^)

You weren't known as pigwanker for nothing y'know ... ;)
Well, I had Argentinian beef in the Gaucho grill in London, it was
    very very good.

.... But the best steak i've ever had was in the Glens of Antrim,
closely followed by a little restaurant in Monte Porzio, for the
    Bistecca alla braccio ...

I've only been there on business, and a 3 week holiday a long time
    ago.
The US team leader I worked with on Long Island, NJ was an absolute
superstar. Not sure it was because of the very, very rigourous
recruitment practices we employed as a company, but he was very
competent and very personable, as were the vast majority of my peers.

    Cheers,

    Paul.

San Francisco is (by a country mile) my least favourite part of
    California.

Do it, it's worth it. I'm meaning to go back there on a bike if I'm
still far enough west once I've got a job _and_ got my bikes out.

The only US cities I could actually say I like are SF and Manhattan,
although I've not been to some that are popular (e.g. Chicago, New
Orleans). No coincidence, I think, that they are the most European of US
cities in style. DC's not bad, too.

I realise it might be a bit odd to describe Manhattan as European, but
both are constrained by water, and therefore don't have the sprawl, the
strip development, the enormous boulevards you can only negociate by car,
and the business district with tumbleweed blowing across the streets
after 5pm, that many others do. You can walk around them.

A thought: how many US cities are built around river crossings? And how
many European cities aren't? Although that doesn't make St. Louis a
    European style city.

Ive got a horrible feeling I might have to learn about changing fuel
jets for altitude and techy things like that.

I think Im going to have to think about going a bit later. I dont want
to be hot, but it gets bloody cold in a lot of the USA. It would a
shame to be restricted to S Cal only. Hmm...

    Owen, May 8, 2010
  19. It does get hot, but in the west, (except north west) it's desert
climate, so it can be 40 degrees C, but you'll barely break sweat,
    because there's very little humidity.

For reference, right now (early May), the So-Cal region is in the mid
    20's C with mostly sunshine.

This I find almost incoprehensible. I absolutely hate NY, but really
quite like SF - the only large city I could really say that of these
    days.
