Dec 2010/Jan 2011.
Expect rain and clouds if you're on the coast road.
If you find anything at all for less than 100usd per day, it'll be a shit Harley. If you want a big Harley, anything Japanese or German, just keep going up from there.
There is a RoRo that goes from Liverpool, but that still will not give guarantee dates, I'm just saying I would not ship out, only back, too many horror stories. , aye
Err, yer, what he says North California can get cold and wet. You will limit where you can go up north We are heading over this time in Sept to catch some some decent weather up north before following the season south. Seriously, reconsider the time or go over to Arizona/New Mexico etc
Anyone got any thoughts on bikes? I like the look of the new Bonnie but maybe a Versys would be more practicle. I havent ridden either, Lozzo? Test ride? Anyone in the south got a Bonnie? I could get a test ride Im sure at a local dealer.
Owen, I have a brand new 2010 model demo bike you can take out. Give me a bell at work 01234 302677 to arrange something. Not many dealers have put a Versys on as a demo, but for some reason we did. http://www.supamoto.co.uk/ Got 0% finance on the Versys at the moment as well.
Finished reading your journal. Great stuff, just enthuses me more. Maybe I need to ask for 3 months off. Now theres a thought... Thank you.
Heh, you silver tongued old devil, you... It must be in the one true colour, frame as well... (they go faster)...
I'm a salesman, what can I say The 2010 comes in totc, like our demo, but the frame and swing arms are more gunmetal colour and silver respectively. Here's a link to what the new model looks like. http://www.kawasaki.co.uk/versys You'll be very lucky to find an all black '09 model like mine, they sold out ages ago and I was lucky to get mine when the only UK allocation of 2009 first came off the boat last February.
BTDT. A loop around LA, Death Valley, Yosemite, San Francisco, PCH, LA in a week. Rental Harleys thobut. The best bit for me was coming down from Yosemite, better than PCH, IMO. Another place that is better than PCH is the Great Ocean Road[1], although a tad further away, granted. [1] I've only done this in a Toyota Camry.
Hell, yeah! I borrowed one off a bloke I met in a pub when I was in Daytona in 1993. OK, it was a SO-Nighthawk, but better than my Nissan hire car.
I wouldn't, really I wouldn't. I only had one for day as a loaner but i thought it was pretty crap. Of course, YMMV.
How about a nice pink Tiger with full hard luggage, touring Scottoiler, heated grips & Vario screen? Wouldn't take a man of your talents long to make the pink bits black to match the frame & engine.
I did SF to Pismo in '95. It was a nice run, but in a cage. There are some very pleasant little stops.
We stopped near Big Sur at a fairly random looking services. We walked in at around 10am, and cowboy walking into the bar style everybody turned to see who had come in, they were all half pissed watching football on a big screen. We stayed for a coke which took about 15 minutes to get served and then buggered off. I think we missed any big tourist stops and we didn't see any signs. We stopped a lot in the highway laybys to take pictures etc, very pleasant drive. We didn't even find LA that bad, stopped in Hollywood so stayed out of the main city, and when we left 3 days later we didn't get too held up. bit of an eye opener doing 70ish on the freeway for about an hour and still being in LA. We were going to stop in Yosemite but got so pissed in Mammoth Lakes the night before we drove straight through and back to SF, lucky we did actually as I didn't realise how long that drive would take.
