    [Micra]
I thought on that age one it was the cam chain adjuster, certainly
that's what's rattly on my youngest's Micra. Although it maybe that
the oil changes were neglected by the PO.

  3. Camchain adjusters are indeed a weak point, but only as you suggest,
    if oil changes are neglected.

But then they normally still run fine, just noisily.

keeping one bike and one moderately shite car.

    DR says...
I buy wisely, and sell wisely too. I don't drink, I smoke roll-ups and I
have learned to live on next to no money, yet still have a good time. It
looks like the SV K3 might have a new home, the Gixer is also near to
leaving here too, the TS50s I have yet to collect. My insurance is about
215 quid fully comp for everything, and 200 quid comp for the Micra. On
top of that is taxing them, but only 3 of them are roadworthy, so I save
    there.

When you add up the total value of all those bikes and the Micra it
still wouldn't add up to the cost of a new Triumph Sprint ST, so it's
not like I have a garage full of valuable classics.

  7. Or a Fazer 600 - not so sure the camchain tensioner issues on those
are down to a lack of oil changes though.

In the Honda car engine world, (or at least the 90s era), they used
cambelts so avoided any such issues... and compensated for this with
overly frequent belt change intervals (in car terms, anyway).

A small price to pay for some really cracking engines though -
powerful yet reliable, something they managed to achieve without over-
complicating the designs either - manually adjusted tappets and an ECU
anyone can look at and work out what any fault codes it has equate to,
without the need for a visit to a main stealer so they can charge you
for the privilege of them hooking it up to a diagnostics machine, for
    example.

Anyone with a bit of mechanic nous can work on the B and D series
    engines.

  8. When you compare them to other small cars of their time, I think for a
1.0 they go pretty well really... but as I say, you do have to wind
    them up a bit.

And handling wise... are, they do tend to sway about a bit, but
they're not unpredictable - you just need a little faith when pushing
    on through twisties.
One of the reasons I didn't keep the last one - I found caning it too
    much fun. ;-)
