Really. I thought she replaced it with another R1.

Has anyone here checked out her chicken strips.

    What bits do they need?

  9. I must say I raised an amused eyebrow as well. But then The Doctor runs
one. It just goes, and goes, and goes.

Is it the new model one, the old rounded cuddly one, or even the old
    Mark One with cart springs?

I've had two within the last couple of years and they just work and
are surprisingly economical. Both my kids are running micras although
my eldest daughter's is starting to look a little tired.

SWMBO has one - new shape. She has had it from new and it's just over
4 years old. I laughed at the thing when I first met her but I have to
say, apart from usual consumables it's not needed a thing.

The drivers window squeaks really badly when it goes down and it's
terrible for condensation, especially in this damp weather.

Also, she managed to get a large armchair in the back of it, which I
failed to do so with my apparently 'larger' 306.

I absolutely hate driving the gutless POS, though!

Mark 2 slightly rounded one. M reg, excellent condition, 100,000 miles
and it's as sweet as a nut. I don't need or want a big car, I also hate
spending money on cars, so a 1 litre Micra is ideal. Like you say, they
just keep going and going. All I wanted was cheap reliable transport and
at 200 quid it was perfect. It sits on the motorway at 75 to 80, has a
radio and a hatchback for me to throw crap inside - that's all I need.

All of this buying cars as status symbols is bollocks to me. I did all
that as a teenager back in the early 80s when I ran Capris and stuff
like that, I've grown out of it. I ride bikes to get my petrolhead
kicks, and have a cheap little car for when I need to shift bigger stuff
around. There's no pleasure in driving cars for me, so it's pointless me
spending good money on something I'll never enjoy and will just sit
there unused for days on end.

Steve can snort all he likes, since he became 'management' he's become
the most pretentious, up himself arsehole I've known, and he wasn't all
that to begin with. He'd do well to remember that he doesn't own the
Passat, if he's sacked he's back to driving some piece of shit Italian
    motor instead.

  15. The main thing that dies on these is the throttle body - if you come
across one that's known to work at a sensible price, doesn't matter
whether it's off the 1.0 or 1.3, buy it, as this *will* fail at some
    stage.
They're good fun, although they do tend to need a bit of cog swapping
for big hills etc, something which you've probably become unaccustomed
to with the diesels you've had in recent times.

Aside from the pretentious bit, that's a pretty damned accurate
    character assesment of yourself.
    *shrugs*

Still, they're both paid for, and I have a wedge in the bank as a
contingency if anything like that happens.

Yep, it's gutless alright. Even coming up Ampthill Hill, I have to go
down to 3rd to ensure laden artics don't ram me from behind.

  19. No worries - have had three K11 Micras in the past, and two suffered
    with this. :)

The cause is dry solder joints on the main control board within the
throttle body, so it is possible if you're handy with a soldering iron
to fix it yourself, but I'd still have another unit on standby if you
rely on the car in question at all.

The other thing with these is, (and I know someone like you with a bit
of mechanical savvy will anyway), it's imperative to keep the oil nice
and fresh, as they have a habit of developing a rattly camchain if you
    don't.
The plus side is they go well when revved - even the 1.0.

The down side to that is they tend to drink fuel (even by 'beating a
small car wivva big stick' standards), when driven 'spiritedly'. ;-)

    Jack Hackett says...
That's something I can do myself - my old man's an electronics engineer
and he taught me how to do fine board soldering work when I was a small
    boy.
It's in need of a full service, so I'll be doing that this weekend. The
engine sounds really sweet for the miles.
I wouldn't say that, it just goes a bit better than a Mini 1.3, which
isn't difficult. I just wish it had Mini-like handling but with the
Micra's ability to ride bumps though.
The difference in fuel consumption between sedate driving and giving it
    stick is huge.
