Yet another movie motorcycle question.....

For people in Melb, Lumiere cinema is showing a 'new' print of Fellini's
seminal 1954 work "La Strada" until wednesday.

While it is not a bike movie, a 'motorcycle' certainly plays a central
role. It's owner describes it as "American", but it doesn't look like
any "american" bike I have seen.
Below are the only pics I could find on-line.

Any ideas? What is it?

can't see enough of the motor to know.

the first pic has an odd 2-1 header setup which would imply it isn't a
v-twin, but beyond that...

Any ideas? What is it?it looks like a HD servicar at first glance...but not sure if there is a
3 wheeler under all that stuff

tho the headlight is more like an indian scout, and it may be a shifter
in front of his right knee (HD is on left)...the brake is on the wrong
side of the wheel, and the pipes are all wrong to be a scout

 

I'm thinking Fellini wouldn't have had to look too far for props. I'm
fairly sure it's a 1940 Benelli M36 500 Single, built as a
three-wheeler for the Italian Army (cue gearbox jokes...). It's
definitely not an Indian if it's a girder-forked single, and can't be
a Harley with those forks.
