Come on Ben, this is downtown Bicester.

    Something more like a Shogun

To add to that, don't even think about buying a narrowbody 155. The
engine may be totally bulletproof, but the Tipo underpinnings start to
show through when it's got a few miles under it's belt.

So far, though, I'm very impressed with the Passat. For the first time
in my life I actually have a car that exhibits something I've heard
    referred to as 'build quality'.

Is that a new style Passat?

Old one, B5 shape 1998-2002, ISTR. Same shape Statto had.

Lovely car, but I miss my Alfa. Still I'm keeping the 'real' Alfa, and
can't say I'll be sorry to see the 'Tipo in drag' go.

I still class that as new shape, as in it's not the square cornered one.

Are they going for god prices now then? I'm trying to see how much PHH
want for my old astra, then looking at what I can get for similar money.

Well, I paid what was frankly a pittance for mine - £1995 with 12 month
ticket and 6 month warranty. It's done 130k miles, but has a fully
stamped up VAG dealer history and only 2 previous owners.

For the money, you can't go wrong, as it still drives like a new one.

Given a choice I'd probably have gone for the TDI, but they're a hell of
    a lot more expensive.

Mine was the current model - the one with the longer snout and
    different design rear light cluster.

Bloody hell, that is a good price. I take it from a dealer on the
    pay-to-get-in side of the bridges?

It's December, it's not a great colour (non-metallic dark green),
doesn't have alloys. Good spec. otherwise. It's not pristine, but it's
pretty tidy, just what you'd expect for the miles. Interior is
    immaculate, though.

From a slightly iffy-looking dealer up the road from us......

Ahhh, right. Didn't realise it had been around that long, to be honest -
maybe it was facelifted in 2001-ish?

    Statto says...
They've changed a little since yours was made. They now have indicators
in the door mirrors and a different grille treatment.

I guess these are cosmetic - the update in 2000 was chassis tweaks and
    cosmetic.

I meant pre beam frame really. Should have been more specific.

I once had a Honda that was oil on floor.

    What about the Hummer H1

With all those "all you can eat" places you need trucks that size and
with that power to get about in.

I think a Suburban is bigger than the Yukon. The Suburban seats 8.
I test drove one of those when I was in the states. If I ever live
there, I'm going to get one.

We had a Dodge Ram crew cab truck in Canada. 4WD, 5.7 litre V8 petrol,
making ~350bhp. Fun, it was :)

And about the only time I've driven an Automatic with suficient power
not to bug the hell out of me. Still couldn't get it to hold in high
gear when I didn't want it to kick-down, though, although with the
torque available, and a smooth change, this was less of an issue than
it might have been. Would be better with a proper manual box, of
    course.

Apparently they do make one with a muanual transmission (and
    auto-shifter. Unfortunately it's only available with the 500bhp, 8.3
    litre, V10 viper engine. http://www.dodge.com/ram_truck/ . WANT!
