Yes, but is it art?

Possibly, but most of us weren't around a hundred-plus years ago to
    hear the original.

His kidding what? Your postings get less grammatically correct over
    time, you know.
Indeed, it was the obvious response.

I'd go one step further and say anything that doesn't involve ANY kind of
    ball is culture.

I've been to a number of modern art galleries, both here and in Europe.
My opinion is not based on either no experience or of visiting just one
    gallery.

There will always be the occasional aberration that actually has some
merit, however 99% of it is, and will always be, shite. It is art's
answer to the Emperor's new clothes - it's a blag. The only talent these
'artists' have is selling worthless shite to supposedly intelligent
    people.

Some Matisse would be in the 1%, yes. Not my sort of thing, but you
can't deny the talent required to produce some of his paintings.
It doesn't 'rile' me at all. I have no problem with retards being sold
    shite by con artists.

Did you not get to see the Tate Modern, weetabix sponsored, Carl Andre
    retrospective?

    Krakatoa pre-1883 - what do I win?

He's got more sense. Mere representation isn't where it's at man.

For an artist to have talent, they simply have to be capable of
producing something that a normal person couldn't. That's not just the
actual mechanics of painting, sculpting etc. but the production of the
    idea itself.

Being a pretentious arsehole, however, does not equate to talent.

'Oh, I'll put all the names of people I've shagged in a tent', for
example, does not require any talent - neither practical or
intellectual. 'Oh, I'll make a pile of plastic chairs' again requires no
    practical or intellectual talent.

A Dali painting, sculpture or film (AFAIK, he only did Un Chien Andalou,
though) on the other hand, requires both. You may hate his works as much
as something by that irritating, relentless bitch, Emmons. However you
can't deny the talent required to produce his 'crap', which is something
you can't say about 99% of modern art.

    Or not. Doh.

I will say this: it's absolute bollocks unless you know what the piece
is called, then it's a matter of personal judgement as to whether it's
    still absolute bollocks.
