It probably doesn't weigh much more than nothing. Love the variable pitch
prop demo. Fucking good control yon mon has.

All very nice, but a lot of edit points, so for all we know, he could've
crashed hundreds of times during that display.

Too low risk too. He wasn't anywhere near as close to the crowd as the other
    bloke.

Well having done both, I can say you're absolutely not right.

They use symmetrical sections aerofoils. Or simple flat plate aerofoils (if
    you can call 'em that).

Planes the carry people generally have a flatter lower surface than the top,
but even big monster planes can fly quite happily with a symmetrical section
    wing.

And even those with a very asymmetrical section can still fly upside down by
the simple expedient of a dollop of "down" elevator and a little more power
    applied.

Bleriot (among other) moved the whole wing, just not quite as far as that
model. It was/is called "wing warping". I suspect Bleriot made real planes,
although I'm sure they're regarded as "toys" these days.

Not that size makes any difference to aerodynamics if we disregard the
    Reynolds number aspect.

    Err, OK.

How does the laws of physics explain this -

In summary - 392 mph on a sustained basis over a
closed course with a model R/C glider.

Well perhaps 392 was not exactly sustained but 300+
    was - for the pedants.

Dynamic soaring - is the googler.

I feel that I ought to understand it, but then it
just makes no sense at all. How is it possible
to accelerate to 390mph in a 40mph wind?

I did some analysis on another video and
estimated that the glider was pulling 35g
on average at 370mph - ish.

I like the cut of your jib Sir! Funny enough, due to spending far too
much time in one, I noticed the Dash-8s have the engine angled down.
I assumed this was to help them crash.

That's not flying. It's falling with style.

  10. The engine will also be angled to the right by a few degrees - this is
because the vector of thrust from a rotating prop isn't dead straight -
the air picks up a rotational moment from the prop - so angling the
engine down and right corrects the effect somewhat.

Err, Ok what? A little context would be useful.
    So what's to explain?
In much the same way as wind surfers manage to surf faster than the wind
    they're using for motive power.
That'd sort out the old Chalfonts, or push them out first.

I'll check that out, seems reasonable though. The things they do to
get fairycraft to fly. I might have to go to bed now on account of
    being cunted. Which reminds me

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0375920/

For the most gratuitous use of the word **** in a serious screen play.
    I also liked Quills

Set in a loony bin. Class.
