    Hi,

I am after any info on the Yamaha VMax 1200 bikes.
Anyone have any good websites that detail the bikes history etc?

    Thanks
    Brett

Yeah, I did the google thing, thought since this was a motorcycle group
someone may be able to offer first hand information, my bad I suppose.

When I was interested in them a few years back, I did a bit of research. I
found a site that talked about Headstem mods (inserting a washer?) and
varoius suspension mods. There was a list of "mandatory" mods that could be
done cheaply, with parts that most people had lying around in their garage
already. I can't be sure, but it was either on http://www.v-max.com/ or a
    link from that page.

I looked at one again last week, but couldn't justify the price tag. From
everything I've heard, massive globs o' grunt, and fasntastic in a straight
line, but don't ask it to turn in a hurry....

For a moment there I thought I was in aus.aviation and you were
talking about a Boeing 767 fitted with GE engines...

G, but then I checked the headers.

    G-S,
A personal opinion of your ownership experience would be great....

    TIA

Thanks for the links Fooker, should keep me busy!

Could you provide feedback on your opinion of the bike (i.e. pros and cons
etc), noting that you own one?

Thanks for the feedback G-S, that's basically what I've read on the net
about the bike, think I need to test ride one...
Any idea what these bikes are costing currently?

Try and get one after 93, they have bigger forks and upgraded brakes, also
make sure you get the full power version, some were released without V-boost
    ( European market i think ) .
Not a good bike for wet weather riding as they easily break traction (
dropped mine just before xmas )
Also dont buy parts from Yamaha Australia, price is allways 3 times what i
pay for parts shipped from the states and theirs take longer to get here....
Vmax Tech is a great place to look around, they also have a yahoo group,
with people from all round the world with bukoo knowledge, use it, once you
are a member on there you can get OEM parts from one of the members with a
    15% discount..
Pro's of this bike are nothing can touch it from lights to lights, feels
like a 2stroke on steroids when into Vboost territory, also happy to put
along all day although windblast can be a bit taxing, everyone wants to know
    what it is :)
Cons i can see are small fuel tank limits range, very thirsty when hammered,
mine was a Jap import and the diaphrams in the carbs were all ratshit, so i
fully rebuilt them, mate seems to think it was cause the bike sat for so
long without being used ( 86 model with 11.000 klms on it ) cost me 8k,
here's where i bought it from, they allways have a good range of jap
imports, and are happy to source a particular year if you need, hope this
    helps,
    Wrecka

    Thanks for the reply Wrecker,
Great info on the Max. How long have you owned yours for?
I purchased my last bike from Import Motorcycle Centre and had them ship it
to Melbourne for me, had great service and a good deal from them, I'm now in
Perth so may do the same.
There website is also where I first saw the VMax and have been researching
    it since.
Any chance of emailing some photos of you bike to me if not too much
    trouble? (cashie(at)net2000.com.au)
    Cheers
    Brett
