Yamaha TW200 2006

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Broderick Crawford, Apr 17, 2007.

  1. Well, logic is an essential part of a technical discussion, wouldn't
    you agree.

    Let's see, now.

Any engine wears out faster, the harder it's used. Correct?

Therefore an engine which is run continually at maximum revs will wear
out faster than one that isn't, correct?

Therefore, to advise someone to run their engine flat out all the time
is to advise them to wear out their engine prematurely, correct?

    So get a decent newsreader.

No, your inaccuracies tend to undermine your ineffectivity with the
    newbie.

    You're sounding paranoid, sweetie.

  3. It is not bogged down in fifth at 20mph, goes to 55 just fine.

  4. I'd expect that, to be honest. Nice soft little 200cc dirt bike, with
    lowish dirt bike gearing.

Bear in mind that revving an engine to the redline in neutral is not
the same thing at all as running it on the road at the redline. In
neutral, there's no load on the engine - on the road, it will be at
maximum load, which will of course, if done continually, reduce its
    lifespan.

  5. There is no load going down hill and backing off the throttle.

Broderick, you can waste your time on Usenet, arguing with nut cases
like TOG and Gene Cash, or you can go to a nice web based forum where
    the people behave themselves.

To answer your question about why there is a redline on your
speedometer at 55 mph, Yamaha has been using that same speedometer
since 1982, when the national speed limit was 55 mph. The redline has
nothing whatever to do with engine RPM.

If you go to http://tw200forum.com/forums/3619/ShowPost.aspx you can
read about some very satisfied people who ride their stock TW200's up
to 70 mph, and regularly make 50-mile round trips at 60 mph.

I'm mentioned in the same sentence as TOG! W00T!

I don't remember arguing with Broderick, though...

  11. Now that's a good idea. Why don't you follow your own advice?
