Yamaha TW200 2006

  1. I don't need support. I have made a very simple statement, contradicting
    your silly one.

Once again, you are making yourself look a figure of absurdity. While I
confess I find this as amusing as ever, you might want to desist.

So how exactly do these two paragraphs not contradict each other
    "Albrecht"?

Above, you're telling the OP that running the TW200 at redline is fine,
no problems at all. Below, you tell him that it's not that great an idea.

Can you grasp the difference between the TW200 and its engine? The
TW200 is designed for dirt donking and it has an engine that will rev
    up to
9500 RPM without hurting it. It has an overdrive 5th gear so you can
ride it on the highway to get to the dirt donking area and back.

It also has DOT approved knobby tires and its top speed is limited,
    compared to cars and trucks,

I wouldn't want to be out on the highway trying to ride a TW200 flat
out at 65 mph with pickup trucks and cars coming up behind me at 85 or
    90 mph.

But, that's just my opinion. You can ride *your* TW200 however you
want, and you can experimentally change the front and rear sprockets
    to see what happens.

I'm not too sure about what the OP knows, and his perception that his
engine is turning too many RPM on the highway is the problem
I'm trying to help him with.

Your need to argue and debate is your problem. Why don't you head for
the closest pub now and get into a lively debate with some locals?

I don't think making the final drive ratio taller will make a TW200
go any faster than it does in the stock configuration, with the
    throttle pinned open. Do you?

  7. Yes! Nobody is denying this. But you have said you can ride it at 9500
all the time, and it's been pointed out, repeatedly, that this is not a
good thing for engine longevity. *Whatever* gearing it's running.

  8. By telling him it's OK to ride flat out all the time? Big help.

  10. Nah, this is fun. He makes error after error, trumpets perceived wisdom
after perceived wisdom, and now he's claiming that there's a conspiracy
    against him.

It's only a matter of time before he takes a gun and goes in search of a
    university campus.

I've already stated my opinion that dropping six teeth off the rear
sprocket to reduce the final drive ratio by 13.6% would likely
result in a TW200 that needed to be constantly shifted back to 4th
gear every time the grade percentage changed or a gust of wind blew.

However, TOG has been shaking the bars of his cage so hard, I haven't
had time to read much of the experience reported on:

Hell, I'll buy him the ammo and the gun and point him at UCF, if it'll
    get him out of here.

  13. Maybe it's the red line at the 55 mark on the spedometer that made me
    think that.
Yes, I'm getting to fifth gear before I reach 20mph. It's bang, bang,
bang, bang real quick. Because all he gears seem like low gear compared
    to my 1400 cruiser.

  14. Yes, running it full throttle in neutral in the garage doesn't seem to
    bother it at all.

  15. I'm getting 100+ mpg no matter how I drive it. Low gear on the logging
roads or 5th gear redlining on the highway.

In Japan, the national speed limit is 55 mph. A local dealer imported
some Japanese home market CB-750's, and they actually had a
red light over the speedometer that would flash if you exceeded the
    Japanese speed limit...
It sounds like you're shifting way too soon, and that bogs the engine
down so bad you can't accelerate to redline in 5th gear.

If you shift at around 6500 RPM in the first four gears using the
speedo, shift out of 1st gear at 15mph, 2nd gear at 25 mph, 3rd gear
speed at 32 mph, and 4th gear at 40 mph, and when you reach 6500 in
5th gear your speed will be 50 mph.

If doing that doesn't worry you, then running the engine at redline to
go 73 mph will be easy for you.

I will never forget the guy who bought a custom 1955 Chevy which had a
tachometer installed. We were both 18 year old kids and
he wanted to see if he could blip his engine up to 7200 RPM.

He kept blipping the engine in neutral and blew it up. He was a nice
kid though, he taught me a lot about small block Chevys, including
    what not to do...

So....the engine can go to 9500 without harm, ok. And the TW200 can't be
run at maximum speed without harm, ok. But the OP has his engine in a
TW200, so that engine that can stay at 9500rpm all day (by your account)
is in a bike where it's not a good idea to run at max speed all day
    (again by your account)...

and I'm still confused; I'd swear that you're contradicting yourself,
but you know that's impossible. I know a bit less than that, which is
that you'd never admit to having contradicted yourself, even if you had
(which is, as you know, impossible).

I thought I had killfiled you again, actually. I'll have to figure out
what's wrong with the filter now.

  19. But not *all the time*, unless he wants the engine to wear out fast.
    Right?
