    Hi,

My son's friend has asked me to see if anyone has experienced cold starting
problems with a Yamaha Thundercat YZF 600 (1997) and if there is a remedy,
or any course of remedial action - short of trading the bike in. It will
always start when warm, but not cold e.g. the following day. It has to be
bump started as it will not fire up off the starter motor! Even a new
battery made no difference! Thanks in advance - all advice most welcome.

    Cheers,
    Ron.

  2. When was the last time the fuelling was checked , are the plugs in good
condition , gapped correctly leads ok.

Does the bike have a choke if so is the cable in good nick and set correctly

  3. Silly question, but have the valve clearances not been checked in an
age? Tight clearances can make some bikes right buggers to start from
    cold.

Thanks for replying. They both reckon the choke is ok and functioning
correctly. The fuel has been replaced in the tank, the fuel line cleaned and
the carb cleaned in petrol. The plugs are gapped correctly and the leads
produce a good spark at cold. Both trained as car mechanics, but did not
have much to do with carbs - modern apprenticeships! Cheers.

    Ron.

  5. I suppose it's a disappearing technology at least in mainstream
products. The carb still has a place in small engines for a while,
    though.

    Oh, and...
Please reply at the bottom and snip sigs, ta.
