Ok, for silly reasons best kept to myself I've gone and bought a 1983 Yam
RS200. This weekend I'm planning on doing a bit of top end strip down. I'm
not expecting any nasties as it runs really nice, but just in case does
anybody know if the pistons, rings and little end bearings are the same as
    a RD200?

BTW anybody know what the top speed of this thing is meant to be.

They should be exactly the same parts.
    About 75 to 80ish IIRC

Cheers Loz, I had a feeling you might know the answer to that one. :)
I did try but felt such a prat lying flat on that tank at 70 that I gave
    up.

  4. They are. The porting may be different, but all the parts are
interchangeable. I have some RD200 gasket sets, too, I think.

About 75. Nice little bike, in its way. The early ones had a single seat
and a topbox fitted as OE, IIRC.

Get the timing checked properly, it's often neglected by people who
can't afford the kit/services. It's vital that it's right or it *will*
    hole pistons or seize.

A good RD200 should be hitting about 85/90 on the clock.

Heh, I reckon there's space in the frame for an RD250/400 motor. Wonder if
    anybody will notice...

That old saying comes to mind.
Faster than a piston skirt up a port.

There was a magic ratio of port to solid cylinder wall but it elludes me
    now.

  15. No it weren't, you senile old fool.

RD250E/F was the fastest of the lot, I reckon.

Correct. The YDS7 felt faster by virtue of it being piston ported,
giving a much sharper power delivery. The 250E/F topped out at just
short of a ton, if you had a good one. The YDS7 peaked at about 95 IIRC,
though there are wildly exaggerated claims of 110mph ones out there.

It's likely that 'plod' will. Many police bikers are actually enthusiasts
as well, and many, amongst the dingbats, are actually quite knowledgable
regarding bikes - not to mention the MOT station.
