Is there a way to check what Yamaha parts are compatible with others,
using the part numbers? I'm looking for parts in wrecking yards and I
would like to broaden my search. For example, I have a 1981 YZ80 that I
need a clutch for. I can't imagine these change much between the years
(famous last words...). If I look at the parts list I see that the
clutch boss part number for 1981 is 1V1-16371-01-00 and for 1985 it is
    1V1-16371-02-00.

Should the 1985 one work? Are there any rules I can follow?

    Thanks,

    Brian.

  2. we have run yz pistons in trx250r cylinders and worked purfect.
The first years are different. Parts donot interchange like that in
    close years.
