Yamaha FZR600's

I was after getting a GSXR600 SRAD in the spring, but it's still looking a
little expensive when you add the insurance costs on top of the bike, so I
think the FZR is looking a more viable option.

Any advice on which years are better bikes, or which years to avoid?
Any reason that I really shouldn't get one all together?

    TIA

Yamaha's crap engine build quality in those days of the FZR's, which leads
to oil consumption. Expect a litre of oil every 1000 kms as something normal
(whatever it is in imperial system)

Howver, it wasn't a successful bike on the racetracks (at least where I
live) so you do not have the risk of buying a "perfect" CBR with plastics in
"mint" condition, which means they were replaced by fiberglass bodywork
    whilst racing.

they are all at least 9 years old and shite

I'd spend the money on a more recent Fazer

IIRC the FZR600 was a favourite proddie race bike in the UK during the
    early to mid 1990s

I didn't live in the UK :) In Spain that was the end of the era of the
CBR-or-nothing, the bike that was confortable for long journeys, good for
daily conmuting and the killer machine on the racetrack. If Honda dealers
hype had gone a bit further, the CBR seat would have healed hemorroids. Then
    came the R6.

You can't pick up a Fazer for around £1000 though. I'm not looking at the
bike as a long term thing, just for a year or so.

    Wha?

Well, I wasn't paying much attention to club racing in the mid-90s,
but I think you're probably right.

Yes you can if you don't mind a little bit above average mileage and
maybe sticking a pair of tyres on it. Look around lots, you'll be
shocked at what people will let bikes go for.

My thundercat cost me £1300 albeit on a Q plate , and I've seen others
without the Q but with scuffed bodywork for that price.
    Might be worth a look.

  10. We've had 3 FZR600's between us and they were all great bikes. Bit of
engine smoke later in the 20k plus, clunky gear box (standard Yamaha it
seems) reg rectifier went on two of them, but easily sorted.

A good older bike, couple of J reg's and a K reg if memory serves. I've
always had Yamaha's starting with the TZR and recently a couple of R1's via
a YZF750 and I've never had any major problems with them, not that my local
    dealer couldn't sort out.

Go for it, they're not worth much so not much cost if you crash it.

  12. Well £1200 quid I was hoping for, including all the bits like spare
wheels and wets etc. The Acropovic? system is worth half that.

  13. OK I will sell the bike to you for £1000. I will kee pthe plastics I
bought and the spare wheels. I should get £200 quid for them...

It does sounds very tempting, but insurance on an old sports 600 is gonna be
    alot, let alone a 750.

Dynamic is only about 19 or 20 at most. His insurance will be crippling,
    even where we live.

£701.72 TPO for a 94 ZXR750 L2 on Bennetts 'quick quote', which by the looks
of it makes alot of assumptions, so I'm guessing it may be pushing £1k or
    more with a proper quote.
