I was sitting in the front room watching the TV when it occurred to me
that I'd been hearing my combi boiler whirring away for the last hour.
My daughter was filling an 8 foot Bestway fast set paddling pool using
    the hot water tap.

Non-porous underlying geology is the problem. That, and the fact that
the Lake District reservoirs also feed Manchester, Liverpool and
Lancashire... Where I live in north-east Cumbria, however, remains
    unbanned for the moment.

Just a couple of backwashes of the pool will take an hour mr more to
    top up.

I don't use a lawn sprinkler regularly, but if/when bits are reseeded
it's really a necessity in this sort of weather, and that would be for
a _lot_ more than an hour.
