Yamaha FJR1300

    That bike is the dogs balls, but what is this auto gearbox shit on the 'A'
    model.

    Auto cars are one thing but slow moving on a bike auto box is not good. It
    is very jerky and I don't like the lack of control at slow speed- there is
    something not right about a bike on auto, i think you need to have control
    input all the time, but then I'm just an awkward sod !

    The FJR1300AE definitely caught my eye, not the least of which is because of
    my curiously absent left hindlimb.

    My current bike has a pushbutton electric shift and a standard generic
    average ordinary cable-actuated clutch. I say with authority that
    pushbutton shifting works just fine.

    It's the FJR1300AE's computer controlled clutch that turns me off. As with
    an auto trans, it will at times have a different idea of power requirements
    than I do. And as a novel technology, it's bound to be horribly expensive
    to repair when it breaks down.

    JP mentioned that his lot had tried FJR1300s as a possible replacement
    for the Wobbling Wonder that is the Pan Euro 1300 ... nice enough
    bikes by all accounts but a) the brakes apparently get a bit
    distressed during prolonged abuse, such as on escort duty and the
    like [1], and b) when a Pan Euro falls over, you replace a couple of
    £5 bits of plastic (the crash bar covers); when the same thing
    happens to an FJR1300, the results are apparently very pricey in the
    plastics department. Most TrafPol crashes are either huge
    pursuit-based lobs or, more usually, small drops while manhandling

    of those loons hustling GL1800s around quite nicely, and it's not like
    plod need an especially fast bike, since 90% of the time they're

    Inasmuch as I've been riding this old 1200 like a ****, yes, they can get
    out of their own way with reasonable alacrity. If you're going to be at the
    BH, you can take it out for a bifter and see what I mean.
