    Hi Guys,

Just after a little quick advice

I've need a bike fairly quickly and I've been offerred by a shop a 95
    Yamaha 900 diversion.
Fairly worn and scuffed (not worried) for £1500 cash.
Cash is tight and I only have a max of 1500

I've ridden a few times but only overseas and only for holiday times -
    I'm 6ft 4 and about 17st so I need a biggish bike.

I know nothing about this bike... anybody advise on the danger signs
    etc.

I'm only hoping to commute 10 miles to work a day (Streets and road
    traffic) so not high mileage.

Any help or guidance would be greatfully appeciated

    Cheers

    Russ

    Price seems a little high.

Biggest thing to look for is the exhaust. They rot at the collector
box. At this age if this hasn't already got and aftermarket stainless
system it could cost you a fair few quid very fast.

Apart from that they rattle a bit but are sound.

A 1995 one will have a pretty crappy finish - later ones were much
    improved.

As Toad says, the exhausts rot. Motad actually do a complete pattern
replacement (at a price) which is better quality. But grovel underneath
and look at the collector box where the header pipes meet - that's
where it rots, and that's pricey.

Brakes are prone to seizing - it's a Yamaha.

    Suspension gets soggy early.

Other than that, no worries. Incredibly tough reliable bike. Top whack
130+, 45mpg, just a bit heavy and a bit dull.

    Thanks Tog,

Do you think the price is a bit steep?

  6. No, not really, not if it's reasonably tidy. The Divvie was killed by
the new emissions regs, and there's always someone wanting one as a
working bike, especially as there is *nothing* similar available
    anywhere else.

A grand and a half for something like that, from a dealer - it'll always
    sell.

Mind you, one should always haggle, even so.
