Yamaha 650 Maxim Shifter

Discussion in 'Motorbike Technical Discussion' started by Steve Bukosky, Aug 15, 2004.

  1. 1982 XJ650J. Turned 82,000 miles on it today and the shifter won't get out
of 1st gear. When in neutral, it goes back into first. I've heard this is
from a bent shifter fork? How much of a job is this? Is it more than
pulling the shift lever and removing the cover to access the fork? The
machine is in good shape otherwise and I'd like to fix it. I've had my old
Triumph Bonneville's engine and transmission apart and back together so
should be able to tackle this. Just need some tips. Any websites with info
    on this? Thanks!
