Got the XX back today - many thanks to Cam (who tested it up to 280 in a
school zone...). Not entirely sure what happened - hardly ever use the
clutch above 3rd - never dump it and only 31K. There was plenty of plate
left but something (yet to get the details) had gone. Know anything about
    this Eck??? :)

So now the garage houses a lovely black thing with new bits and the promise
of happy days again, roasted legs and trips to the Hunter. Oh joy! Now to
find something similar for the other 1/2 of the bed...

    Cheers,
    Dave

Remove the battery and drain the oil before you put it into bed......
    sheesh, some people!

That'll confuse him; he's used to putting the toy's batteries IN before he
    takes it to bed!

Naah - the Fleshlight doesn't need batteries.

(May need some lube though, but we won't mention that).

Merely thought about it. (The Thought Police weren't around at the time.)

I was really shocked at how unpleasant it was riding in city traffic on
    the 'bird.

Yes, it can be done, but, fun it ain't.

    Interesting... what was the problem?

The Norge can be a bit annoying at really slow speeds because it does
have a bit of shaft jerk (quiet in the peanut gallery!). Didn't take
long to learn how to handle the throttle so it wasn't too bad. I have
to ride the clutch a bit in the "slower than walking pace" stuff though.

At more than say 10kmh it is fine.

You ride into Granville on a Hornet 600, sitting upright, and then get
onto a superbudgie, and, at low speed it feels terrible.

Note, I haven't been hesitant about praising the 'bird out on open road
situations, but I found it a serious lump to play with in traffic.
    Power delivery wasn't a problem.

Now I think about it, the brakes were "funny". Is there some cross
    connection business there?

Foot brake felt very dead, while front brake had, to me, a bit of a
    snatch to it.<shrug>

It's still a hell of a good motorcycle, just not what I'd choose for
    city riding.

    Ah!

Yeah I can see that, it's a very big bike.

I'm happy with the Norge in traffic, it's even quite good at
lanesplitting. I could wish I didn't have to ride the clutch as much
at those speeds though - with a 6 speed box they could have made first
    lower.

We had this conversation yesterday, and yes, I'll give that the XX is
certainly hot at walking pace speeds. Try to ride it in heavy traffic with
no lanesplitting possibilities (ie. < 30 km/h) at 40deg and you will have
roasted drumsticks. However, I've actually never had a problem with its
bulk. I have been caught out once in a reverse uphill only situation (my
own stupid fault) where it was a bvstard to back up but it's really never
been an issue at any speed.

I guess it's all relative. After riding the snatchy ST2 around town for a
year the XX is super smooth and the low gearing is an OK compromise. Any
lower and it wouldn't be possible to do 200 in 1st! ;-) For *really*
crappy traffic, you could go a cog less but for me that's such a small part
of its operation I would not want to go there - gearing is perfect for
    everything else.

So horses for courses (lots and lots of them) - but if you've come from a
snatchy V-twin then you'll love the XX in all conditions. Come from a
smooth 600 and it will take some time to adjust in heavy conditions. In
open countryside, you will have to adjust your undies... :)

Cheers and thanks again Cam - *really* appreciate it.

What's the large reason? You haven't actually stated _any_ reason.

He hasn't stated a reason, but those who are able to follow the conversation
understand the reason he is talking about.

Time to bring back the GNYAFW t-shirts. ;-)

    Cheers,
    Dale.
