XS750 Flasher Relay and Boot Sourcing Question

  1. Hello dirty newsgroup,

    I'm well on the way to getting the old banger
    (http://www.jitconsulting.co.uk/dirty/bike/57_3.jpg) mobile again, which is
    not bad considering it's my first bit of DIY repairs since my GP100 in 1987.
    Could use some tips about a couple of bits though, if anyone's feeling
    generous ...

    I need a "flasher relay" with 3 pins, but the best suggestion I've had so
    far is "get one out of a car spares shop for about £7 and try it - it might
    work Repeat until successful/skint" That was from my local bike shop[1].
    Sounds potentially expensive to me ... can any of you old rockers improve on
    that?

    Also I've noticed that the old gaitor/boot thing off the universal joint is
    proper shagged and I'd love to know how to go about getting a replacement -
    not the sort of thing I'd imagine a breakers would be any good for really.
    As ever any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you, newsgroup, thank

    When in doubt, get one rated at the correct voltage from an MZ[1], or do
    what the man says. Your local Halfords -may- prove to be the best bet here.


    Not vastly expensive as a new part from a Yamaha dealership[2]. Try taking
    the old one to a motorfactor place and see if you can match up the diameter
    at the middle gearbox end with approx the correct length to cut for a
    suitable fit at the rear fork end. May strike lucky with that.

    Interesting looking 'zorst.
    I had to buy one for the TS last week, got it off the shelf from M&P, worked
    out of the box, cost £6.99. I spotted a very similar looking device in
    Halfords yesterday for the same money.

    You have no sigsep sir (not that it bothers me, just thought I'd point it
    out)

    looks.

    Actually the local bike shop aren't that bad. I just have this paranoia
    thing about shiny flashy bike shops that goes back to my 17 yr old days when
    I used to go creeping round for Yamaha posters and to have a gander at the
    machines (like the desmodronic Bimota thing in the window of Dave Brown
    Kawasaki in Canterbury). Much as I loved the places I often got a sense of
    "Don't touch what you aint buying, shitlegs" from the staff. This was in
    stark contrast to the Vincent specialist (Mr Conway I think his name was) in
    Whitstable who had a drag racer in his window and would happily spend all
    day telling you about that and the intricacies of Vincent engines. I just
    had to get that off my chest, thanks for listening.
    Is that a signature separator (guessing here)? What do I have to do to get
    one of those (in Outlook Express 6)?

    Yers.
    In OE, from the menu:
    Tools>Options, then click 'signatures' tab.
    Click on 'New' then enter your sig. text in the box.

    You can set it to add the sig. automatically, or when you send a message;
    click Insert (from menu) and select signature.
