My old '83 XR200R always started first kick, hot or cold. My '99 XR200R
is a PIA to start if the weather is cold, not so bad when the weather
warm. Every other new XR200R that I have seen is also a PIA to start. Is
this simply due to changes in the carburetors? Do you think that if I
bought a used carb from an old XR that it would make it start like an
    OLD XR?

FWIW, Mine has been re-jetted (XR's Only) and it made no difference.

    Thanks,

The idle mixture screw is available. I'll give it a shot.

    Thanks.

gotta get the fuel into it

I also Increase the idle speed as well which helps, then adjust when started
