Xmas Gift Dilemma...

Discussion in 'Bay Area Bikers' started by Larry xlax Lovisone, Dec 4, 2004.

  1. I'm done Xmas shopping and thanks to the net I saved money... now for the
    dilemma...

For Mary a ceramic gas log set to return that warm glow after a long day at
    the office...
    $485.00 retail $309.00 Ebay...

For Mr. RC45 a set of Ohlins 43mm Road and Track forks with factory upgrade
for radial brake calipers... $2568.00 retail... $1599.00 Ebay...

Trouble started when the Bank of Mary (nothing gets past her) found out I
spent more on Mr.RC45 than her... OK so I unpacked the logs and set it in
our fire place and struck a match... then I opened the box of Ohlins... Mary
has until Xmas to pick the warm glow or cold forks... what do you think it
    will be???

  4. Well I did order Mary a MotoGp coffee cup that features her favorite
rider... Valentino Rossi... the one with him on riding a stinky Yamaha no
    less...

The pain you must have gone through to order that cup should be worth some
    new suspension goodies!

  6. Ordering it was painless... but looking at it every morning while hand
carrying it into Mary full of espresso will be a painful reminder... I
think I shall order me one too and drain Mr.RC45 oil in it...

Maybe if you gaze into the image of Rossi on the cup long enough you will
begin to learn the secrets of his speed... I'm sure Mary can appreciate the
sacrafices you make every morning to make that delivery. :)

Hmmm, lets see, you get the best forks available for the RC and she
    gets........logs? ;)

  9. I think you'll eventually be installing those forks on Mr. RC45. After
    extricating them from your colon.

You know they sell a video of a fire a lot cheaper. Then, you can buy her
tools with the money saved. "look honey, i got you a new torque wrench, and
    a toaster!"

  11. Growing up at her parents gas station... Mary knows how to use tools just as
    well as a toaster...

hmm, tough call there, perhaps using an Orwellian word application would
    temper the situation.
Call the forks an "unbelievable opportunity" to rectify an otherwise
    unsolvable suspension problem.
or say..."Like..Honey.... I just want them, dammit."

I just built a new PC for my wife on her birthday, like she cares what the
front side bus speed is or that ddr ram is better than pc100 and you know...
But I managed to sneak in and play Quake for over two hours straight last
week while she was off skiing, and I did enjoy having a state of the art pc
to run a silly game on, even if it is her birthday present, that she uses
    for email and web surfing...
    .....
Xmas in my garage looks like:
my R1 will get a set of Rennsports or BT014's, the R1100RS just got a pair
of brand new D220s, and the VTR got an 014 front and 020 rear, and so they
all got tires for xmas, for starters anyway.

I also broke down and ordered the new iQue 3600 pda/navigator, and a ram
mount attachment for mc's and a cradle for the car. If only they made the
Treo 650 with a built in GPS and navigation software....that would've been
hard to pass up. It's possible to get a cradle/gps thing to put a standard
PDA into and make it a navigator but that seems problematic to add to the
bike, plus what if you LOSE the thing, yikes, all your personal info plus a
cell phone to call in all of the fraudulently acquired orders...

Sounds like you need the three bank account method ;)

    His, her and joint account.

And in our household, money spent on bikes (two of the current three
are hers anyway) doesn't count as presents ;)

  17. Good advice SG...
Mary and I subscribe to the tri-bank method... there's my mad money for the
Bike generated in the Busy Little Shop... her painting money generated by
Sac County pay check... and household which is a combination her paycheck
    and my USAF retirement check...
