Were they any good? someone wants to swap for my XJ900 is it worth looking at (as a SOB) dave
Dave Eades let forth with a mighty belch and uttered : Yes. Very. Its a lesser XJ900 Yes, but unless it is in v.good nick and your 900 isn't, I'd question why. In my opinion, and it is just that, the XJ650 is a better looking bike. The US market custom jobs were vile.
I had a XJ600 as my first 600 and it was a good bike, quite torqey IIRC. It was written off on a round-a-bout by a myopic sierra driver. The carbs were a bit suspect on mine. I still have the Yamaha manual for it if you are interested.
watch out for a rotten swinging arm, they had an open bracket which lets in all the crud and rots it from the inside out, very bad design, I always bunged the holes up. Carb rubbers rot a bit and if it's a 'E' model it think, they needed a special tool to adjust the carbs. Steering head bearings was suss as standard, swap for tapper roller. Tanks also used to chaff the frame if the rubber blocks where missing. Unfortunately, the XJ600 has got nothing to do with the XJ650. Thanks for playing, tho. Better luck next time.
