    You're both right, & both wrong. You can't compare 4wd & 2wd without
specifying a load of other stuff that makes all the difference. LSDs,
traction control, stability control, weight, width of tyres, type of
snow (hard-packed, hard-packed with fresh on top, deep & fresh) etc etc.
On a trailing or light throttle, lateral grip's more down to weight
than anything else. So a Vitara will likely be better than one of the
big 2wd executive saloons. Add in some throttle & again you have to
take all the other variables into account.

    Mine (V6) was awful.

The GT is 'OK' but by god you get sick of the little orange light.

It was a general comment that deserved a general answer, but of course yer
    right.
Aye, of course the new RR has TC & a few other gizmos, but so do most modern
    cars....

Only as far as the first geriatric **** or fucking twat of a truck driver
    who has blocked the road.
A decent trail bike on the right tyres is the Ultimate Answer

  9. That's true. The *one* **** who tried to impede my progress through the
stalled traffic last night was in a Rangie and he kept edging forwardst
o stop me nipping between him and the car in front. He was revving his
engine while he did so. ****

Mind you, I hope he was properly frustrated because he as in one of the
few cars capable of tackling the conditions. It's just that he was
    griddlocked. Good.
Yes. I wish I had my TS250 on the road.

  10. This would be nothing to do with the fact that supermarkets re-stock
every day, effectively, and the trucks have not been able to get
    through?

The 185 was good in snow. Descending Chatham Hill (1in12) in fresh
snow was fun in 1979, but scooting past loads of stuck cars on the way
    up was much more fun.

My TS250 commuted from near the Castle of Mey to Doomreay through Caithness
winters for several years. Sometimes with self tappers in the trials tyre
blocks. Never missed a beat. Low seat height, light, wonderful.
