Eh? what a fucking joke, **** all in the shops, cunting cretins on the roads, suicidal peds on the pavements if yer lucky. Mind you, first time i havent had a decent 4x4 in winter, i'm beginning to think the mX5 isnt the best winter car -- Nige R1 MX5
Bullshit! I took my RR on nearly bald normal tyres places you couldnt take any 2wd car, i mean serious useage.
You don't say. I won't be venturing out in mine. The worst winter car I ever had as the Alfa 75 2.5 V6 Cloverleaf. It took me 6 goes to get out of my moderately uphill road (a cul-de-sac) one day. Had to keep rolling back down and up my slightly downhill drive then go as quick as I dare down that and drift on to the road and keep up enough momentum to get to the main road. The best was a Fiat 126. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Aprilia Shiver Yamaha WR250Z/Supermoto "Old Gimmer's Hillclimber" | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+
Bullshit. You might be able to get up hills, but you'd still slide off on the corners. You were probably on dual-purpose tyres anyway, anyway. And much bigger wheels help as well.
I have, without sounding like a cock, probably got more off road driving experience than most people in all kinds of 4x4 vehicles. Obviously standard road tyres that are nearly bald are gonna be a bit crap, but these worked utterly superbly in all areas considering they where not ideal for the job, even my mate an instructor commented. Technique helps, but i can tell you 100% that any 2wd vehicle with full muds on would not even get close.
I disagree, mainly because i used the same vehicle with the same tyres up & down all over in deep, compacted & powder, worked fine every time on some proper hills (yorkshire dont forget) Mud tyres are pretty shit on Snow anyway, fucking snow, i hate it.
my 1st car was the best in snow - 1981/2 when we had proper snow. A 1300cc Ford Capri. Not enough power to go very fast but great fun sliding around corners and made of finest Essex rust so no worries about bashing it. I do like the TCS on the current car. Makes getting up the short, icy slope on the drive easy.
Suprised about the 75 - with half the weight over the rear (driven) wheels, it should be fine - I've not had any issues with mine on slippery roads (although mine is a TSpark, not V6). The Prius is surprisingly good in the snow - and I have a pair of snow socks in the boot if things get really bad.
Worst I ever drove was a RWD cavalier. Almost impossible to move on compacted snow on the slightest of slopes. Best for me was a Renault 10 although the front end was a tad light.
The revs just picked up so fast once it did start to spin the back wheels that it was very hard to maintain grip. Can't remember what tyres I had on it - not chunky and probably well worn. Electric motors give massive torque at minuscule revs so understandable. The other good snow car I had was the Nova 1.5TD SX. That would pull away on idle. The Octavia 2.0 PD140 wasn't bad, much easier to drive in the snow than the Mazda 6. Plenty of weight over the driven wheels. Being an estate car doesn't help the weight distribution. The Talbot Express camper van was pretty useless though had its compensations once parked up to spend a night in the forest for the RAC rally in the old days. Like a space heater and an oven. -- +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Visit my *NEW* Home Page : http://www.flarefox.com/Joomla | | "Do not adjust your mind - there is a fault in the reality" | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+
My folks are 86 and 83. They live up a steep slope that won't ever be gritted. Mums gets around on 2 sticks, once there is ice around she's housebound (aunt broke her pelvis last month and mum isn't taking any chances). Dad filled the freezer last week. 200SX S13 once on untreated road it was all over the place last night. Even though it's supposed to have a LSD and it passes the jack car spin one wheel the other goes the same way test. I once managed to fall off a CB125S 3 times on the same spot. Couldn't stand to kick it up, once moving it was OK.

In communiqué <1jst7t2.o95hbh1nxcigiN%>, Indeed. Heh, I forgot my CRV! I excluded that on the basis that it should be OK. Didn't get as much practice in that as the 126 though. Only had to drive it in snow once. -- +-------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pete Fisher at Home: | | Aprilia Shiver Yamaha WR250Z/Supermoto "Old Gimmer's Hillclimber" | | Gilera GFR * 2 Moto Morini 2C/375 Morini 350 "Forgotten Error" | +-------------------------------------------------------------------+
