This Virginian is about to order one from a near-bankrupt company that
ONLY manufactures these dang thangs in the U.S. of A.

You don't suppose that some greedy bastard of a CEO will get my down

    Not this T.T.E.

I looked closely at the Dodge; looks good irl, looks good on paper.
Chevrolet has it beat on power with the 6.2 w/400+hp.

    In this test
    http://special-reports.pickuptrucks.com/2008/11/best-overall-ha.html
The new Ford beat them all, not in power, but overall.

Dodge certainly would win for greatest depreciation, at least around here.
After 80,000 or so miles, going by past models, there is considerable
differences in vehicle condition between the Dodge and the other 2.

    I like it though

    Thanks for the feedback!

I've been a Chevy/GMC truck guy for the past 15 years, but I have a
friend who put over 260,000 miles on a Dodge Dakota mid-size, over
240k on a Chrysler T&C awd mini-van and has 190k on his current Grand
    Voyager minivan.

Plus, Chevy will not put that nice 6.2 liter with the nice new 6-speed
transmission in a 1/2 ton, and they won't even put it in a standard
cab 3/4 ton truck; you have to buy a 6,000 pound truck with a 143-inch
or 157-inch wheelbase to get that engine. Ina standard cab/shortbed
1500, you can only get the 5.3 liter (315 hp) and the 4-speed auto,
both of which I already have in my '06 Silverado (though the 5.3 in
    '06 was 295hp vs 315 today.).

I run a standard cab shortbed because my truck is also my daily
commuter, and I don't need or want an extended, crew, or club cab, nor
an 8" bed. I do have a thing for manueverable, fast, good looking
trucks, and I think that the R/T version of the Dodge is the best
looking full size truck on the market, an opinion that is admittedly
    purely subjective.

My son is a Ford technician, and can get me the killer deal of all
killer deals on a Ford pickup, and if they were still selling
something like the Ford Lightning of 2003 (or thereabouts) I'd be
interested, but they don't and while their new F150 is gettting great
reviews, I simply can't stand its looks. Plus, they have no real
    "sport" version.

I also think that as a regular driver, the R/T with the coil spring
rear-end is going to be a whole different story unladen.

I guess we'll see. Depends on how good a deal I can work. I've
never ordered a vehicle from the factory before.

Yeah, I hear you. Those are not Rams, and lots of vehicles will last, but
    the feel, the looks.

    =======================
Yes, they put it in 1/2 tons, however it is the upscale CrewCab models,
    i.e., LTZ.

    The '06's also had a 310hp 5.3.

    -------------------------------------------
I run a standard cab shortbed because my truck is also my daily

The Dodge is, 2 me, the best looking, followed by pre-09 Ford, then GMC,
    Chevy, Titan, Tundra.

Ford is coming out with the 'Hurricane' soon. Will be hi-pro similiar to the
Lightning. The Lightning was/is a Rocket.
    ---------------------------------------------------------------

I also think that as a regular driver, the R/T with the coil spring

    ----------------------------------------
Even the '08 and down, rode very good. But you know here in Tx we have to
pull cows, haul hay, and cross those damn Arroyos, I mean it's tuff here.
    -----------------------------------------------------------

I guess we'll see. Depends on how good a deal I can work. I've

    -----------------------------------------------------------
I think I heard they are discounting 5 to 6,000 here on '09 (Dodge).
Dodge and Ford are practically giving away the '08's.

Good luck with it, and if you need a good load of manure. we can fix you up
there at that border town..... well let us know

    Yes.

I wont buy a new truck until it can perform as well as an origianl
(1992) AM General H1 2dr. On and off road MUST equal or exceed by 20%
that standard. It also MUST return 35-50mpg. I will not accept a
hybrid (they fail when used like a real truck/SUV) No batteries
because there are no plug-ins in the back 1,000. I don't give a care
about ac, dvd, cd, gps etc. None survive when using a truck where I
live. A good heater, coolant heater/circulator is mandatory and should
be standard. A standard reciever for a 5th wheel ball should be
standard. The body should be cheap and easy to maintain i.e. easily
beat out with a shop hammer. The front should accept any winch without
removing or cutting the front bumper.

Until then I'll keep using my 1972 Chevrolet Cheyenne 4x2 350 auto in
a custom textured white exterior paint job. It runs well gets roughly
20mpg (should swap in an electronic ignition...yeah it's got points)
Stereo? It quit so I pulled it and threw it away.

Unlike the last two new cars (Geo Metro that ate motors and a 1997
Saturn that ate a motor, clutch and both half shafts.) IT doesn't quit
    or die.

Looks like you'll be keeping the '72 cause they really haven't made a better
    one yet.

And yes that Hybrid deal on a truck is a joke.

Luckily, I live in rather more genteel environs than you!

My truck merely has to transport me in comfort to and from work, be
low enough for one person (old and getting older, moi) to load a
motorcycle into the bed using nothing more than two 8-foot aluminum
ramps, (thus no 4wd models), and be able to comfortably tow a enclosed
6x12 trailer anywhere in the country on a moment's notice. It will
never go off-road and will live in the garage.

I decided a couple of years ago after the BMW Z3 Coupe fiasco that my
4-wheel driving *fun* would also have to come from my truck, because I
will never again own a sports car AND a truck simultaneously. I can
live without the sports car, but not without the truck. So my truck
has to be as close as practical to a sports car, while still beign
able to haul bikes and the trailer.

There are TWO kinds of road here...flat and mostly straight or
mountains with very few straights. 8^) That 20mpg was with it loaded
like that bastard child of the Beverly Hillbillies and the Grapes of
Wrath. From Tacoma, Wa to Browning, MT. Map that route on Map Quest or
    something.
8^) Yeah but were you loaded up to the gunwales with "stuff"?

Nothing wrong with that. My old POS ( don't let Rat truck know I
