  1. Rotten luck # 1

Seeing an ovebore kit for a Yamaha 1000 on the 50% off table at Action
in Canberra (marked down from $850 to $425)

    Rotten Luck # 2

Making an insulting offer on the kit ($200) and having him accept (after
assuring me it'll fit a Thunderarse)

    Rotten Luck # 3

Realising that I'll now have to do an engine rebuild

    Rotten Luck #4

Realising that I'll have to break the news to the missus

    Rotten Luck # 5

Realising that *not* all FZR and YZF piston kits are the same (the kit
    was for a pre-EXUP FZR)

At least the guy at the bike shop gave me my $$$ back. I kinda liked
the idea of an overbore though.

    Sigh.

    Some people are never happy.

    So if anyone is looking for a 1029 big-bore kit for a 1988 FZR1000
Genesis, there's one going cheap at Action Motorcycles in Canberra.

According to the ladz on the Thunderarse list, the most common kit is a
1040, while a 1070 is also available if you want to resleeve the motor.

While a chunk of the improvement is *undoubtedly* a result of replacing
the old 100000km rings, they reckon there is a fair bit of return from
the increased compression over stock, and the lighter weight of the
    slugs.

    Or maybe not...

(Shit - after spending an extra $1K or so buying and installing an
overbore kit *I* would be convincing myself of some serious power gains
    ;-)
