  1. Went to the Flower Pot in Derby to see yyz (Rush tribute band)

Excellent set they were on stage for over 2 hours covering everything as far
back as 'By-tor and the snow dog.'

oh, they also have a web site detailing current gig dates etc www.yyzuk.com

Why do people continually harp on about covers bands when there are
hundreds of perfectly good current bands to see?

Other than being stuck in the 70s, that is...

Snap out of it, you pair of miserable sods. Life's short, enjoy it
while you can. Past is past, future is uncertain. Here and now is all
    that matters.

I have been very very drunk in that place and managed a trip south
consuming more alcohol. Trains and an alcohol induced imperviousness to
    shame. Rapture.

Actually, the (possibly former) landlord's son used to go to the same
school as me, about 16 years ago. I wonder if it's still owned by them,
    must investigate.

I agree trains and alcohol work totally.. When I was doing the regular
week in London thing a few years back I'd usually get quite slarneyed
traveling back on the Friday 20:30 from St Pancras. I'm now quite
embarrassed at the things I said to people.. but at the same time I'm
still proud of the time I got an irish bloke in the buffet car to kick
off a bit of a scrap with the annoying bloke from the Leeds office I was
    working with.

    Happy days.

I've never quite managed that, I'm ok at putting the past behind me (new
mistakes are good mistakes) the present just kind of happens, and I
continually find myself considering the future effects of the things I'm
doing, or am about to do.

Although lately, I just do them anyway.

    Oh yes.
98/99/00 I used to go down every Wednesday for QCA or related meetings
and get the last train home. Wobbling across London (usually from
camden or crouch end) to catch it :)
I used to pass out as soon as I got on the train - ended up in
    Sheffield a couple of times.
I'm proud of *stopping* a fight between rival football supporters.
In places. Being mum is better than being a career fiend.

Heh, I've missed that last train before. That was a night I don't care
to repeat. I should have booked a hotel, but stubbornly waited for the
    first train the next day.

I wonder if we ever shared a carriage long before we knew each other.
I think I did that just the once unintentionally.. and once because I
wanted to go to the Leadmill. Thankfully Chesterfield was only a 1/2 hr
or so back down the line.
If you say "football hooligans" it annoys Blaney. ;-)
Somehow I very much doubt that's an option open to me.
